They changed the way they store files and all the old links no longer work. They are also removing links older than a few months so even though I do index the older obits on the Muskingum OHGenWeb site, most of the links do not work. They are just there to let you know they once did work and you might actually run into one that does, usually within the last year. You can use the recorder's search engine and find an obit and pay them to see it. You can also find many of the Recorder's obits for the last several years on America's Obituaries which is accessible from many libraries and online through many library portals. The newspaper is also microfilmed and on file at the John McIntire Library in Zanesville, the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus and the Ohio University Library in Athens. (Greenwood Avenue). It was first established in 1835 on 7 1/2 acres the city bought for that purpose. The first burial was that of James Durham (1790-1835). The name used was CITY CEMETERY from 1835 until 1882 when it was changed to GREENWOOD CEMETERY." (Capitalization per book.) "There had been an estimated 100,000 burials made in Greenwood Cemetery by 1944. There are no records and no monuments for many individuals before 1895. Fires in the superintendents house and in the Market House were blamed for the loss of records for 1835 thru 1894. Many interments, names and locations, from that period will never be known.
