She told me that her Schaub ancestors first settled near St. Clairsville, Ohio, had relatives in Canada, and that one of them had died in a mine accident. I'm looking up the Schaub ancestry partly for a medical reason, based on genetics. Could anyone tell me something about the Schaubs that settled around there, especially any of them who were related to Mrs. Dorsey? The northwestern counties of Virginia ( Old Dominion ) were admitted to the Union in 1863 as the state of West Virginia. Before this split of the state, when it was still Virginia the Kellys owned most if not all of the land that is now Oglebay Park, West Virginia. On that list were my great grandfather and several of his brothers, After 1853 the brothers moved to Brown County, Wisconsin and I have not found any Naturalization papers in the library there: This is information found at the Genealogy Library at our Milwaukee Irish Cultural Center: Patrick Hart Ohio 1853 Declaration of Intent 2901.1 Source Hargrove, Sylvia Smedly and Hilda E. I cannot help on the Hamler side because I cannot get a lead on Michael, some of the relatives stated Michael may have been his middle name for instance. He was born in Maryland. John Allen was his oldest brother and Benjamin Franklin was his twin. All were members of the Oddfellows. We have often wondered how Elizabeth was related to the Hatfields? A great grandparent is not that far removed from this lady that oral history would be very far off. What interests me, however, is whether the John Kelly of Union township is the same John Kelly. He is the only John Kelly so far I can substantiate who existed in Muskingum old enough to be a Revolutionary War Veteran. Do you suspect they are the same man and that perhaps his descendents are the ones who moved to Muskingum township? There should be records from the script warrant act files to substantiate land purchases for him if he did indeed claim land under it. Are there possibilities he may have moved to another county first on this land, sold it and then on to Muskingum? Thank you for posting this. She was the widow of William Harry Martin, former physical director of the YMCA, who died in 1949. The last surviving member of six children, she was the youngest child of John and Jane Drake Kelly of the old Dresden road, Muskingum Township, Muskingum Township. A descendent of two pioneer families, she was the grand-daughter of the founder of the Drake Lumber Company in 1820 in Zanesville. Her great-grandfather, John Kelly, served in the Revolutionary War. John Winthrop, early governor of Massachusetts, was also related. Mrs. Martin graduated from Kelly School in Muskingum Township in 1904 and taught there two terms. She graduated from Meredith Business College in 1907 and later worked as secretary of the YMCA and was in charge of subscriptions for the building of the present building. She was th! e last living member of Catherine Drake Literary Society and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and St. Hilda's Guild of the Church. Surviving are two sons, William H. Martin Jr., professor at Miami University in Key West, Fla., and John Kelly Martin of the home; seven grandchildren, Bill Martin of Athens, and Mary Maude and Melanie Martin of the home, Mrs. Martha Steadman of Key West, and Charles, John and Mary Ann Martin of Key West, one great - grandson. Five brothers are deceased. Friends may call at the family residence at 740 Convers avenue afternoon today. Requiem mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Episcopal Church with Father Jack Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Author: caliope Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.muskingum/1850.4.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There there doesn't seem to be any doubt that the John Kelly who was a revolutionary war veteran lived in Union township from 1819 (I have a copy of the deed records) until after 1860, and it's verified by the 1860 census that this particular John Kelly served in the Revolutionary war. That's why he's buried in Rich Hill Cemetery, as it's in close proximity to Union Township. I did not find any other John Kellys in Muskingum until the 1830s census and that one was living in Washington Township and would have been born sometime between 1790 and 1800, IOW too young to have been a war veteran. He was suppose to have gotten his land from a grant from the Rev. War.
