    2. Barbara & George Grenier
    3. Hi all It's been fairly quiet on the list, just the obits coming through. Today I decided to again attack a line of my BIL. The dreaded John Smith, well really his wife Carrie or Caroline and decided to look up the children in Ohio Births. First one 1866 so probably not found but I think I have found the other four. My BIL's granny is one of the other four and I looked it up a long time ago. It said the mother's name was Tanger written clearly as anything and so have been looking for that name. So what I found today on FamilySearch as names are Cara Gauger, Carrie Taugor, Caroline Yaugor, Carrie Tanger. Taugor could be a poor transcription of Tanger, but G and Y?? A Y might look like a T-maybe but I don't think a G could I suppose it was what the clerk heard. So what is the name???????? Barbara puzzled in Southern California

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: cwmarshall80 Surnames: James, Walton, Cunningham, Marshall, Wallor Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.muskingum/3558.2.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks very much for this additional info. I'm curious to know how you determined that this Rev. John Waller James, Rector of Christ Church, PA is a brother of George James, attorney in Zanesville, OH. According to this link, John Waller James was visiting his relatives, family living in Huntingdon, PA where he got sick and died in 1836. George James' family is from Virginia, the Fredericksburg area, not Pennsylvania. It appears George James and his parents ended up in Zanesville, Ohio by way of migrating through Kentucky. Also, where did you find the info that ties the name Wallor and Walton together as being one and the same name/family? The Walton name I'm pursuing clearly runs through George's wife Rebecca and her Walton family in VA. Unless this James family of VA (George's family) and Rebecca's Walton (or Wallor) family intermarried at some point prior to them meeting/marrying, the Wallor name cited here appears to run back through a James family. This may be George James' family, or maybe not (the surname "James" is probably fairly common), not from Rebecca's Walton family side. Of course, maybe George and Rebecca were cousins, which sounds strange nowadays but wasn't all that uncommon for cousins to marry back then. In any case, this is all rather confusing so I need to sort it all out, making sure to stay focused on Rebecca's Walton family of VA. I need to get back to Rebecca's Walton parents and see who all is connected to that family in VA (and where they may have come from prior to that). Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks. R. "Ted" Jones, of Putnam Avenue, attended the funeral at St. James Episcopal church at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The edifice was crowded long before the arrival of the cortege and all united in paying a loving tribute to the memory of the departed. Services were conducted by the Rev. H. L. Hadley, pastor of the St. James church. Several beautiful selections were given by the church choir. The body was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery. The local Lodge of Elks conducted their ritual at the grave. A large number of Mr. Jones's relatives and friends from Columbus attended the funeral including Mayor James Thomas, nephew of Mr. Jones. Friends from other cities also attended the services. Mr. Jones was vice president of the Elks Home Company and the following memorial was adopted by the company. "Whereas Brother Jones was one of the charter members of the Elks Home Co and the vice president and director from its inception. Whereas his advice and counsel was always sought and through his efforts the successful construction of the Elks building was largely due, therefore: Be it resolved that while we regret the taking of this brother from our midst, we submit to the will of the All Wise Providence in the faith that He 'doeth all things well' and that our sincere sympathy be extended to the widow who has suffered the greatest loss and that we assure her of our continued interest, that we renew our obligation to keep green in our memories the noble characteristics of the departed and that these resolutions be spread upon minutes and a copy sent to the bereaved widow."
