>From the McConnelsville Herald, 12 September 1873 In the case of Z. R. Barkhurst against Nancy D. Barkhurst, for the custody of the children, taken on appeal to the District Court, it was decided on Wednesday that plaintiff pay defendant $100 in 30 days and $50 every six months, and that the divorced mother retain the custody of the children. Mr. Thos. E. Sturgeon of Zanesville made his friends a brief visit during the week. He is looking fair and fat. Dr. W. B. Hedges of Beverly made us a brief and pleasant call yesterday. The Doctor has a good practice and is doing well. Dr. and Mr. Bert Hambleton left town this mornling for Chicago, to attend a convention of Spiritualists to be held in that place. (Note: It does have Mr., not Mrs.) Mrs. Ann Gray of Meigs Creek, has returned home from Clinton, Iowa, where she spent the past winter and summer with her children. Miss Philena Hammond, daughter of Mr. George Hammond, died Wednesday morning, ages about 34 years, of pulmonary hemmorhage. Mr. James Watkins sr., has sold his property on Center Street, adjoining Mr. Adair's book store, to Mr. James Watkins jr. Price $1,500. Mr. Jacob Gleaner of the Zanesville Paper Mill, founder of the City Times and of the Cadiz Sentinel, after a residence in Zanesville of 35 years, made his second visit to McConnelsville last Tuesday and his first boat trip on the Muskingum River below the city. Mr. W. H. Hughey, who has been painting here for some months and who by his civil and gentlemanly bearing, made many friends among us, left for his home in Cincinnati yesterday, and desires us to return his thanks to his patrons for their patronage. Lamson W. Brent, son of Mr. N. M. Brent, died Wednesday evening, in the 24th year of his age. He had been working at Indianapolis where he first had an attack of cholera, recovering from which, typhoid fever set in, when he made his way home by advice of his physician. He was an agreeable, industrious young man, much respected by his friends, and his death is a sad blow to his family. Funeral today at 1 P. M.
