Mr. James Newlon, of Deerfield, laid on our table last Saturday, a field turnip, measuring two feet in circumference and weighing four pounds two ounces and a half. At a Regular Communication of Corinthian Lodge No. 111, F. & A. M., held Tuesday night, November 4th, 1873, the following members were elected officers for the ensuing year: Lemuel McGrew, W. P.; E. P. Johnson, S. W.; J. H. Brown, J. W.; Ford Sill, Treas.: S. E. Jones, Sec.; R. H. Cotton, S. D.; D. S. Stallsmith, J. D.; Henry Lankin, Tyler. About some teachers - Chas. Dunn, of Marion, is directing the young ideas at Westland school - T. N. Hollett is teaching the Wm. Manly school, Penn. Robert Birch remains in charge at Pennsville. Mrs. McElroy, late of Pennsville, died of heart disease. Rev. McFarland preached last Sabbath at Deerfield to a very large congregation. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Pyle, of Hiawatha, Kansas, are visiting friends in town. N. M. Brent, Esq., after a severe tussle with typhoid fever, is again able to be out. Merrick Embree, of Penn, who has been attending Oberlin College, returned home Wednesday. Miss Brownell, of Malta, having spent some months in Providence, Rhode Island, returned home last week. William Talbott, an esteemed citizen of Penn township, died Monday morning last, of typhoid pneumonia. Mrs. Catharine McElroy, an aged lady, died Tuesday morning at the residence of her son-in-law, J. J. Lindsey, in Pennsville. Jno. Stitt & Co. have rented the Pennsville tannery to Thomas Hodgin, of Chesterfield. Mordecai Worrall will superintend it. Miss Sarah Shepard and Mrs. Rob't Moore returned home Wednesday evening, from a visit to Mondamin, Iowa. Our Venerable friend, Mr. Jas. Beatty, of Bloom, calls to see us as regularly as clock work, every six months, and always remembers the printer. Mr. Geo. Deekrow received a dispatch Wednesday from Camden, Maine, stating that his mother was hopelessly ill and desiring him to go to her. He left same evening.
