    1. [OHMORGAN-L] McConnelsville High School Graduation 1873
    2. High School Commencement A large audience assembled in the Baptist Church last Friday evening June 27th, to listen to the exercises of the graduating class of the High School. The young lady graduates were very prettily and tastefully dressed in white and efforts in the essay line were very commendable. Mr. Brent who delivered an original oration, although not a graduate, has ability and will make his mark. The following was the Programme of the evening’s exercises: Music - Chorus, “Joy! Joy! Freedom Today;” Anthem, “Sing Unto God.” Paper – High School Budget, read by Clara Rowland and Hattie Eberlien. Music – Instrumental, Il Trovatore. Oration – Human Propensities, Mr. Everett Brent. Music – Song, Duet, “How Dear to Me the Hour.” Essays “The World Moves,” Miss Mary L. Cochran; “Art,” Miss Joanna S. Fouts; “The Sun Shines,” Miss Anna C. Cochran. Music – Instrumental, “Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Essays – “The Realm of Silence,” Miss Mary F. H. Young; “Retrospection, or the Things of Today, seen from the stand-point of June, A.D., 1900,” Miss Ella V. Spence. Delivery of Diplomas. Music – Song, “Waiting.” Benediction. At the conclusion the Principal, Professor McLaughlin, spoke some timely words, valuable alike to audience and pupils, and the attainments of his graduates show that he has not pursured his arduous work, in vain. The music was furnished by Major F. M. Kahler, Mrs. C. M. Roberts, Miss Lillie Wood, Miss Frankie Eberlien, Miss Kate Kahler, Mr. G. E. Halliday, Everton Arrick and Eugene J. Brown, Esq., and was very fine. We should have been glad to have given a more extended notice but for want of space can not. McConnelsville Herald, 4 July 1873, p. 3, col. 4
