If the list is through Rootsweb such as this one, the virus is not coming from the list. Any list that has a "Rootsweb" is safe and is filtered for virus. That does not mean that one can sneak through, but it has never happened yet(that I know of) and I have been on many Rootsweb lists for 5 years.
