<PRE>Yes, Polly is very often used for Mary and I can't figure out why. I have it in my family every where. Perhaps the same as Peggy for Margaret, Dick for Richard. Somewhere I have a page of possible nicknames, but can't put my finger on it now as not at my home. Good luck with your family. You do know that sometimes in the olden days, particularly amongst the Quakers people often married someone with the same last name although not very closely related.
