Hi All, I am new to this list. I am researching the surname ROMAN in Morgan Co. and Washington Co.. Specifically I am interested in the family of ABRAHAM ROMAN, b. 1827. His wife was Mariah FAWSET. I believe they had two children, R. D. (female) b. 1859 and Mary M. b. 1863 . I believe Abraham was son of ISAAC ROMAN and MARY HAMPTON. I would be interested in corresponding with anyone else studying these families. I also have a question for anyone: was there once a town in Marion TWP called Plantsville; and was it near Chesterhill? Thanks, Vern evbuck@juno.com ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! Hello list, I was wondering where the Bristol Presbyterian Church is located and if there is a cemetery there. I have the history of the start of the church from the book on the history of Morgan Co. I wasn't sure if the church still exists. Would appreciate any response. Barb Crawford Hocking Co., OH

Susan: Do you have any specific locations for your LUKENS & BROWNS in Morgan Co., OH? I am looking for information on the Lukens and Brown(e) families in Morgan County. The Browns seemed to move several times. I believe the Lukens were Quakers and may have been involved in the underground railroad. Any information on this time period or families would be much appreciated. Susan

I think they are in the Family History Room @ Kate Love Simpson Library in McConnelsville. You can use them there or possibly have copies made. You would have to contact the Historical Society or the Genealogical Society OGS Chapter to have them make the copies. I can also make copies if you want me to, I charge 25 cents a page plus postage. This is more than 34 cents postage and will require a manilla envelope. The titles are: The Quakers of Morgan County, Ohio. by John R Schofield A paper prepared for and presented to the Morgan County Historical Society Third Month 13th, 1972. 7 pages. Hoopes, Miss Minta. Collected Traditions of "Ye Olde Log Cabin Town" at Chesterhill, Ohio. presented by the Quakers at Belmont County. McConnelsville, Ohio, Herald Printing Co., 1957. 54 pages. If anyone wants me to copy them I would be willing, but do not guarantee to have them in your hands within a week. JUST LIKE ANY OTHER BOOK YOU USE, I DO NOT GUARANTEE THIS WILL HAVE ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR FAMILY IN IT. The one written by Miss Hoopes would cost $6.75 plus postage. The one written by Mr. Schofield would cost $1.75 plus postage. I apologize for not putting the titles in italics or underlining them which will give you the exact information you need, BUT BUT Roots Webb does not allow it, you cannot use italics or underlining etc. They think that either of them or both of them --Italics or Underlining-- is a virus coming into the system, thus unlike other electronic publishing where you can do that, here, you cannot do that. --------------28967E2C323DC440ECA25EDE Content-Type: text/x-vcard; charset=us-ascii; name="kha.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: Card for Haybron Adams Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="kha.vcf" begin:vcard n:Adams;Mr. K. Would any folks know if Morgan County divorce records or an index are available at the court house or elsewhere for the the 1840's or so? I've checked "Ohio Divorces: the early years", by Carol Willsey Bell and it appears that records from Morgan County are not included for some reason (Guernsey, Noble, Vinton are). Muskingum also seems to be missing. Looking for possible divorce between William Davidson Lindley and Eliza Rannells Lindley, probably between 1840 and 1850. Greetings All! I found a listing in the SSDI for a Royal WADE, b. 13/6/1902, d. 2/1986. Residence listed as 43787 Stockport, Morgan, OH. I am assuming this is Morgan County? Does anyone have any info on Royal's ancestors? I am guessing that he was related to the Royal WADE that owned the land that Ringgold Cemetery is located on. That Royal was b. 1821 in Belmont County, Ohio, d. 1880 in Morgan County, Ohio and is buried in the Ringgold Cemetery. If anyone can tie these two Royals together, or has info on the first Royal mentioned, I would really appreciate hearing from you! Thanks! Gary L. Wade
THere are 2. The one in the park- Quaker Cemetery The other one is the Methodist cemetery and it is down a side road behind the Methodist Church. There is also one on SR 377 just before you get to Pennsville and it is the Bain Cemetery but I couldn't find any Bains there Marty
According to CEMETERIES OF PENN-WINDSOR TWPS MORGAN CO, OH c. 7/1982 by Morgan Co. Hx/Gen Soc. pg. 17: PENNSVILLE CEMETERY Penn Twp is located in Section 2, Penn Twp, Morgan Co., OH. It is in the village of Pennsville on Township Rd 146 east of OH State Route 377.
Larry, I don't know how many cemeteries there are at Pennsville. The Pennsville Quaker Cemetery is within a nice little park on the west side of the highway (state route 377?) as you leave town going north. If you visit that cemetery, you can see the stones of several of my ancestors, including Aaron Thomas and Rachel M (Dewees) Smith, James Edgerton and Anna (Harmer) Dewees, Amos Harmer, William Webster and Rachel Price (Gilbert) Harmer, Joel Gilbert, Thomas Penrose, Isaac Clendenon, and Joseph King. I would gladly share information on any of these families. I have a good deal of information on other Quaker familes in Morgan County as well. Dan Treadway On Mon, 2 Jul 2001, Laurence E. In 1834 Warren and Susan TIMBERLAKE purchased property in Morgan County Ohio from John L. COCHRAN signing what appears to be a mortgage document to him. This mortgage seems to have been paid off by Timerlakes in 1838 and the property deeded to them at that time by John L. and Mary Catharine COCHRAN of Zanesville. This property consisted of 83 acres in section 10, township 9, range 11. I'm inexperienced at deeds but it looks as though the property was sold by William and Eleanor HAMOND to Samuel COCHRAN in 1831. Samuel COCHRAN then sold to John COCHRAN in 1833. I am trying to learn more about Samuel COCHRAN who is described as being from Donegal Twp., Washington County Pennsylvania at the time of the sale to John COCHRAN. Keren
Hi: I am looking for the burial site for my great great grandmother, Sarah Barkhurst Fitch in Morgan County. She was born march 16, 1826 and died December 3, 1846. She died just six weeks after my great grandmother (Nancy Fitch Asa) was born. Nancy Fitch was raised by her grandparents, John and Elizabeth Barkhurst. I don't know in which cemetery she was buried. She could have been buried near Barkhurst's or Fitch's. I would appreciate any help. Someday, I hope to be able to travel from Nebraska to Ohio. I already know that many of my Asa ancestors are buried at Mt. Olivet in Morgan County. I hope to hear from some of you soon. The Morgan Co Genweb board was just updated. A couple of new items are on there: Under the cemeteries and church section is the History of St. Margaret's Catholic Church Under the misc. section is a very interesting diary written in 1821. Even though the diary contains names from surrounding counties there are a few that are in Morgan. Under organ and inst the webpage for the library is listed along with the catalog link. ****(Yes I still have more info generously given that needs to be transcribed and put online-please be patient.) If you find out of date links, please let me know. Now as to the former Genconnect boards-- As those of you that have used them in the past know they are now combined with the Ancestry/My Family boards. THEY ARE STILL FREE! Anyway I've devoted a page about it on site. I'll try to keep it updated if I find out more info. For those not in the know this has given we administrators LOTS of reading material, over 2000 posts on our admin. mailing list the first 3 days! How does that affect the Morgan Site? Remember you can post queries in both places. If trying to find wills, obits, and bios, is too hard in all the information, I'll be glad to add a page specifically for these on site. It means more work for me, but I want you users to be happy. EMAIL ME PRIVATELY WITH YOUR THOUGHTS-- mailto:morgan@shannonsminis.com Lastly, My address will be changing. I have changed all my onsite links to a mailbox that will foward to whatever my provider will be. It also gives me the advantage of seeing what county you are talking about. I hated to change addresses after having this one for over 5 years, but I'm looking into highspeed access.
