I was recently contacted by someone in possession of a Bible about Morgan Co families. This is not her family but she wants to find it a good home. In it are several inscriptions which the present owner graciously transcribed. I will get these on the Morgan site eventually but would like to tell family members about the bible. She's offering it to a family member for the cost of postage. The oldest clipping concerned "Grandpa Adrian"-John Adrian oldest child of Jacob and Elizabeth Adrian b. in Jefferson Co, Ohio Sept 22, 1827. He moved with his parents to Morgan Co. in the fall of 1842, the farm selected as a home, being in Windsor township, all in woods. He helped his father to clear the farm and culivate the soil. August 5 1852 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Rainey.... The predominate name in the Bible information is Carpenter A marriage certificate for J.E. Carpenter of Morgan Co Ohio and Josie Adrian of Morgan Co. Ohio were joined together in Holy Matrimony at MCConnelsville according to the Oridnance of God and the Laws of the state of Ohio on the 2nd day of November 1881. Other inscriptions about Carpenters There is more, but I think this will give you a sense of the family. Please email me mailto:shanroy@bellsouth.net if you are interested and I'll get you in contact with the present owner and give you more information. Hi, I recently found a birth announcement for one of my relatives in a 1932 edition of the Morgan County Democrat. It reads: A son was born Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Hann, near Douda. I've never heard of Douda. Does anyone know if this is a place? If so, where was it? Thanks, Ron Geauga County, Ohio

Hello List, I am looking for some Work relations that are from the Morgan County, Ohio area also. My gggreat grandmother was Sarah Ann Work, born about 1824 in Morgan County. She married John Eveland, March 14, 1845 in Morgan County, Ohio. Sarah and John are buried in Hocking County, Ohio. John has no marker and Sarah has a marker but no dates. From census reports I have found out that she died between 1900-1908. There is no record of her date in Hocking County records, nor is there a death certificate for her in the Ohio State records. Thus ,this is my brick wall in finding out who her parents were. There were several Work's in the Stockport, Morgan County areas at her life time. I am hoping that you may have in your Work data a mention of a Sarah Ann Work, who may be the daughter of John or David, or Alexander Work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Lona Stevens

This message bounced to me as Linda evidentally isn't subscribed under this address. Anyway I'm passing it along to the list. Please reply directly to Linda ( mailto:jordanlindaty@yahoo.com ) or to the list as I have no personal connection to this family. Thanks, Shannon Moore list manager -------- Original Message -------- Subject: {not a subscriber} Stevens/Stephens Date: Sun, 3 Mar 2002 15:41:24 -0700 From: Linda Jordan <jordanlindaty@yahoo.com> To: OHMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com Hello Carol,My attempt to email you directly did not yet through to you.I saw your Morgan Co. post about your Stevens and thought we might have a connection, not sure. I have Stephens family out of Morgan Co. that I am researching. In some records their name was spelled Stevens. What I also found curious abt. your post is that of the name Daniel Boone Stevens. My David Stevens was born in 1793 in Robeson Twp., Berks Co. PA he married Rebecca Dickinson also from Robeson. Although, I have yet to find evidence of David's parents, I do have my Dickinson family well researched. While researching Berks county data I found that my Dickinson family lived amongest the Daniel Boone family as did some Stephens, as indicated in census records, burials, etc. So, you see why I find it interesting abt. your Daniel Boone Stevens. The only other piece of information on my David's parents or siblings is that he had a brother Samuel Stephens as he is briefly mentioned as father to Linton a cousin to David's children. I did find a David Stevens in my 1830 morgan Co. census book in Bristol twp. don't know if this is my David or not. I do not have the 1850 census so, skipped to 1860 and my David is listed in Penn twp. age 64 born in PA with his wife Rebecca and kids. There is a Thomas Stevens listed in Bristol Twp. wife presumably a wife Abigail Stevens, Thomas is age 81 born Md and Abigail age 84 born Md. Since you stated that your Thomas left the area in 1850's who is this Thomas? There were other Stevens listed as well Kennison's in Bristol. Do you have these data already? What do you think could we have some connection?Linda --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Sports - Sign up for Fantasy Baseball
The only Methodist church currently in Bloom Twp is Pisgah United Methodist Church. There is an attached cemetary, but I believe the cemetary belongs to the township and not the church. My parents are members of the church, so if you have any more questions, I can try to help. This message is kind of a vague request to see if I can find any cousins out among you fine folks. My ggggrandfather, Thomas Stevens Sr. & his brother came to Morgan County early in the 1800's. David, the brother, had a tavern in his home which was on the stage line, from about 1809 to 1831. Thomas Sr. or his son Thomas Jr. laid out the streets of what was then Bristol Township. My gggrandmother, Belinda Kennison/Kension married Thomas Jr. in 1829. Belinda had quite a few sisters & brothers. One of them married Samuel Stevens, one married a man named Seng and one married a man named Osborn. My gggrandmother, Belinda Kennison/Kenison Stevens died young as far as I can ascertain, so I haven't been able to account for all of the siblings of my ggrandfather, Daniel Boone Stevens. I know for sure there was a Thomas Eleazer and Elias, possibly a David, possibly a sister named Mary and one named Melissa. It seems they all went off to live with different members of the family. Daniel went to Iowa in 1855, as did Thomas Eleazer, where they married sisters. The daughter Mary I believe was raised by another Kennison/Kenison sister who married a man named Fuller, but they lived in Athens county. Anyway, if any of this sounds familiar or if any of you are related, please let me know. I am always happy to share. Looking forward to hearing from any of you, Carol Staudenmaier P.S. I just sent off a check to join the Morgan County Chapter of the OGS. caroljune

Hello List Members, I purchased some antique silverware many years ago at an auction in Crooksville, Ohio, which is inscribed with the name H. B. Vincent and Bro, McConnelsville, Ohio. I was wondering if anyone knew anything of the history of these Silversmiths or their Family? It would be nice to get these items back to the original Family. Sandy
I am at a dead end on this line. Is there someone who could look to see if there is an obituary for Thomas C. Fisher? He died July 19, 1902, at Chesterhill, Marion Township, Morgan Co., OH. He is the only one of Joseph and Judith Lappin Fisher's children that I have been able to locate after the 1850 census. Am hoping an obituary might name siblings and locations at time of his death. Thanks in advance. Jerilyn
