Barbara, For the convenience of everyone trying to find names in the posted list, I took the liberty of electronically manipulating it into a sorted list, as follows. Tab characters are inserted between the parts of each name and there are three columns. It should paste well into a table or spreadsheet, if anyone cares to do more with it. Hope this helps, Tony Wickersham Laramie, WY A. A. Adair J. S. Adair J. A. Adair Wm. Adams Worley Adams Jacob Adams jr. Jacob Adams, sen. A. Alderman Jno. Alexander W. H. Allard Jas. Bain G. W. This list of “electors” in Morgan Twp., Morgan Co., Ohio appeared in the 23 Aug. 1872 issue of the McConnelsville Herald. The Morgan County cemetery books are are series by township(s) that were compiled by the Morgan Co. Genealogical Society. I have only the one for Morgan Twp. I also have their marriage books A to D which cover 1819 -1867. This is the same data as found on the IGI (bath M514081 and part of M514082) except it often tells the minister or JP. Also: Malta-McConnelsville High School yearbook for 1956 which lists alumni from 1916 to 1956. Several yearbooks from the same school late 1926, 1930, and a one or two others. A couple of them also have alumni listings but I think only back to 1916. Some caution should be used with the data on the McConnelsville Cemetery found in Cemeteries of Morgan Township, Morgan County, Ohio from the Morgan County Genealogical Society. In a few cases either older tombstones have been replaced with newer ones or tombstones were erected long after the deaths. When I first read family tombstones there in the 1960s, there was a tombstone for Wilkes and Susanna Bozman. The style fit with the 1851 and 1852 death dates. However, when I returned to the cemetery in 2001 there was a new tombstone. This one had not only Wilkes Bozman and his second wife Susanna, but also his first wife with the given name "Ruth". His first wife's name was Mary and she died in Maryland. I also found definitely 20th century tombstone for John Hughes and his wife "Hester" giving his death date as 1840. That's two years after his will was probated. This leaves me questioning if the couple was actually buried there especially since they lived in Meigsville Twp. Barbara
The poster requested information from the cemetery books which is what I replied with. If I had obtained it from another source, I would have given that. Cemeteries of Morgan Township Morgan County, Ohio (McConnelsville, Ohio: The Morgan County Historical Society, 1982). That was my source. If the person with the query used my response, that and not the cemetery book would be their source. Hi, I really need your help in finding some TAYLOR ancestors who were buried in Morgan County, Ohio during the period 1830 to 1920. Probable locations are Windsor, McConnelsville, Malta, and Chesterhill. If anyone has cemetery books for these townships, I would really appreciate a lookup for TAYLOR. Also, I would be interested in purchasing any published cemetery surveys which include these townships, if such are available. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Carl in Alabama
First off I, as list mom, don't ever mind roll calls. Please, however, place location, and approximate dates in addition to your names. DON'T put just ROLL Call in the subject line, you'll probably not get any response. Next, Rich Hill twp in Morgan Co? That's a new one. I've never run across Rich Hill being a twp in Morgan Co, OH. What time period of births are you looking for? And names? I have partial info that has been published in the Morgan Co. Gen. Soc. newsletter over the past several years re births 1867-1884. They are just up to publishing the "S" surnames. I would be happy to check what I have, but need more info from you first. Nadine Gauthier Heppell Windsor, Sonoma Co., CA

Do not expect much from the first few years of the records. Reporting, usually by the father, was very spotty and when reported often did not include the child's given name. For example, my grandfather was born in McConnelsville, Morgan Co., Ohio in 1873. His father reported his birth with only the month, year, and sex of the infant; no day and no given name. His next oldest siblings born in 1868 and 1869 should also have been reported, but weren't. One of the siblings died a year after birth and no that wasn't reported either. My great grandfather, who reported only the one birth, was well read owner of a local business who kept up on things. Evidently he either didn't think much of the reporting rules or much of what was turned in to the county didn't actually get recorded. I'm currently looking at microfilm of Morgan Co. deaths and the earlier reporting of deaths was possibly even less than births. Barbara
