To identify the youngest three persons in Edward Nixon's 1870 household, I think that you have to go back to the 1860 census for Monroe County, Ohio, where, in Edward and Margaret Nixon's household, in addition to the 14-year-old Nancy, there is also a Catherine Myers, age 29. I surmise that this was Nancy's oldest sister, presumably Catherine Nixon Myers. She was first listed as a son, but "son" is stricken through with the letter D above it, presumably meaning daughter of Edward, the head of the household. Catherine must have married a Myers who died or otherwise disappeared prior to 1860. In 1870, Francis, age 15 (who was interestingly not present in the 1860 household) Myers appears, and William, now thirteen is listed. The 1900 census of Wetzel County, WVA, finds Nancy Sindeldecker as a boarder, along with her son Edward, age 16. The Cora, age 4, in Edward Nixon's 1870 household appears to me to have been mistakenly listed ! as a "Myers" in 1870, since Nancy Sindeldecker/Singledecker appears to be her mother based on the 1910 census. Cora's West Virginia death certificate (informant was her daughter, Alma Vanaman Swartz)lists her father as Edward Nixon and her mother as "No Record." I think Edward Nixon was Cora's grandfather, and that Nancy Nixon born 1846 was Cora's mother. The identity of her father I do not know, or whether she was born with benefit of clergy. Would love to hear more about Cora Bell Nixon Vanaman's ancestors from anyone who knows. I believe that based only upon census data, five of Nancy Nixon's total of seven children can be identified: Cora (b. 1866), Joseph (b. about 1872), Berthena (born about 1873, Perly (born about 1880) and Edward (b. about 1884. The other Sindeldecker children listed in the 1880 census (Rebecca, Delila and Daniel) must have been from an earlier marriage of Joseph Sindeldecker, as they were born before 1870.
