I looked through census records yesterday and it sure looks like it is the same Obediah. I think Sarah Mellott must have died (probably in childbirth) and he immediately married Ruth Justice. He named a daughter Sarah A. while wed to Ruth and I find a lot of times they name a daughter after their previous dead wife. Have you obtained the Civil War pension file for Obediah that Ruth and he applied for? Those are really helpful in straightening out relationships. I also follow siblings and cousins down the line and try to see if any of them have any information that will help. I didn't find Ruth Justice in the 1850 censu.
