    3. I have family from Monroe co. Ohio. HINES, GIVENS, SLOAN, and MORRISON. I was online yesterday evening looking at info on HINES, and it came up with the WHEATON genealogy. Well I knew about that, but was also interested to see a Jacob McVey. This Jacob was b. 1850. Jacob went to Wisconsin with the family, alot went to Wisconsin including some Hines. In the Wheaton genealogy at rootsweb.com it says he married Sarah McCormick 1870 in Wisconsin. I have the dates and places, just am not giving that info, because I have something else in mind. Then it says Jacob was a farmer and in the late 1870's he relocated in Wea, Miami co. Kansas. That blew my socks off! Thomas and Elizabeth Givens Hines arrived in Wea, Miami co. Ks. 1864 by covered wagon. This info along with a list of the children and ages, is written in the history of Spring Hill, Kansas. In the cemetery here there are stones for HINES, including Thomas and Elizabeth, many of their children, their son Joseph and wives, and My family of HINES. Joseph went back to Monroe co. to visit in the 1870's. and although Jacob was in Wisconsin, they probably knew of each other, and perhaps got word to him that Kansas had free land. All you had to do was Homestead on it for 5 years and it was yours. I have census records for HINES, but was looking for Jacob McVey. I found him in 1885 from the Kansas State Census Collection 1855-1925. p. 45 Twp. Wea, p.o. Louisburg, Miami Co. Ks. on page 46 and 47 were the HINES family. almost next door to each other. In the Wheaton genealogy it states that Jacob went to Kansas City, MO and became a locomotive fireman. from the 1900 census of Kansas City, Jackson, MO Ward 5 Dist 45, it lists Jacob McVey b. Aug. 1850 in Monroe Co. Oh. age 49 married 30 years to Sarah M. and that he was a locomotive fireman. It also states that his son Theodore was a railroad blacksmith. He is also listed in 1910 at 59 years old with his wife Sarah and a widowed daughter and her child. I did not find him in the 1920 census. I just like looking and sometimes tying things together. My g.g.grandmother Elizabeth Coe HINES, was later married to Benjamin McVey/Vay. and there were other Jacobs in the age range of Benjamin, and that is why the name McVey enticed me.
