    3. This is a general reply to Patticake as to where she might find info regarding Salome Bott. When I am searching a surname in Monroe County I ususally begin by searching the 12 volumes of Monroe Co Genealogical Records and then I procede to the four volumes of Monroe County Newspaper Abstracts compiled by Rita Kopp. The Abstracts are for the Spirit of Democracy for various years. I have found valuable info as to marriages pre 1868 as well as notices of what states people moved to. If your ancestor was involved in some type of legal action it was usually printed in the newspaper. If it is in the abstracts it is then easy to go to the microfilm of the newspaper to read about it and many times also to records in the Common Pleas and Probate Courts in Woodsfield to read the actual record. Abstracts are available for purchase from the Monroe Co. Genealogical Society and there is a printable order form available at the Monroe US Genweb site. My last comment is once we hear that the Monroe courthouse burned we sometimes think no old records are available. However, the Court of Common Pleas records did not burn and with patience and a few leads before you go the records of Common Pleas contain a huge amount of info This is my first posting to the list and it is a bit too long, but I would be glad to share some tips about how I have found info in Monroe Co. if someone has questions. I have a large number of surnames there--along the riverfront and in the Center Twp. area. Janet .
