Obituaries of Monroe Co.,Oh Carl Marshall Romick, youngest son of the late Edward & Nancy Romick, was born near Sardis, March 3, 1901. At the age of 48 years, 3 months and 23 days, he met his death Monday, June 27, at Youngstown, Ohio while working as a lineman for the Ohio Edison Company. He went to Youngstown 25 years ago and had been employed for the same company during that time. He was a member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge #21. Masonic services were held Tuesday evening at the Hofmeister Funeral home. Wednesday he was brought to the Rush Funeral home. On June 29, 1925 he was united in marriage to Anna Winters. He leaves his wife, also five brothers: Charles & Lawrence of Cleveland, George & Paul of Youngstown & Floyd of Sardis; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Bourne and Mrs Harry BAKER of Cleveland. A brother Ben and a sister Laura preceded him in death several years ago. Carl had many friends and he will long be remembered by his fellow employees. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Mt. Olive Church with Rev. Clyde Willis officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery. March 17, 1926 Mention was made last week of the death of Merritt Baker, son of Clyde Baker, and a former resident of Woodsfield before moving to Peace Dale, Rhode Island. From a letter to Mr. & Mrs. William Schwall, we learn that Merritt was a foreman on a big pile-driving boat on which is a mast or derrick about 60 feet high. On the day he was killed, the crew was handling an extra large pile and the two men on the second platform were unable to pull it into position for receiving the first impact of the three-ton wieght that set it. Merritt went aloft to help put the pile in position and had started down the mast. When the engine started, a slack line stiffened suddenly and hit Merritt, knocking him against the mast. he lost his hold and fell about 30 feet to the deck of the boat, fracturing his skull at the base of the brain. His right arm and several ribs were broken and apparently he never knew what happened. The accident occured at 6:45 Friday evening and he passed away at 6 o'clock the next morning without regaining consciousness. June 35, 1942 George Baker, aged 81 years, died Tuesday morning at the home of his son, Harry, east of town, following a several months illness. Mr. Baker's death occurred on his 81st birthday anniversary. Short funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at the home of his son followed by final obsequies at 2:00 o'clock at Mt. Carrick church, Interment will be made in the church cemetery. As immediate relatives he is survived by his brother, M.W. "Doc" Baker and a sister, Mrs. Jere Jackson, both of Woodsfield. A more complete obituary will be published later. October 1, 1931 Mrs. Lucinda Baker, aged 71 years, died Friday morning of last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.L. Hine, of near Woodsfield. She was stricken with paralysis about five weeks ago and gradually grew weaker thereafter. Mrs. Baker was born on September 1, 1859 and died on December 12, 1930 being 71 years, 3 months and 11 days of age. She spent practically all her life in the community where she died, loved and respected by all who knew her. Her husband, who was George F. Baker, died 1914 and since that time, she made her home with her son Alton who survives her as do two daughters, Mrs. George Christman, of Lewisville R.2 and Mrs. Hine above mentioned. She has also one brother and one sister living, Mrs. Sarah Jane Briggs, of Miamisburg, Ohio; and one brother, Madison Gray, of near Woodsfield. Mrs. Baker was a member of the M.P. Church at Moose Ridge for many years. Funeral services were held at the Hine home on Sunday afternoon, in charge of Rev. JF. Cash, of the Woodsfield M.E. Church. Interment was made in the family lot in Moose Ridge cemetery. Dec 17, 1930 While on a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Oci Baker in New Martinsville, Mrs. Ethel Rea, 85, of Clarington, died at 10 o'clock Sunday morning. Surviving are four daughters and two sons: Mrs. Baker, in whose home she died; Mrs. Fred Bruney, Clarington; Mrs. Robert Thay, Akron; Mrs Harry Goldblatt, Los Angeles; Jarrett Rea, New Martinsville; Robert Rea, Clarington; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. The body is at the Rush funeral home in Clarington to remain for services Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Fred Zimmerman will officiate and interment will be in Clarington cemetery. Saturday, March 20, 1948 Etna C. Perkins, 81, life resident of Bethesda, O. district, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Della McEndree at Akron, O. A son of the late William and Eamily Kinney Perkins, he was born in Beallsville, O., August 25, 1867. Surviving are two sons, Charles, Akron, O; Edward, of Belmont; four daughter, Mrs. Della McEndree, and Mrs. Loa Dunlaney, both of Akron; Mrs Mar Petro, Belmont and Mrs. Otis Nelson, Clarion, Ia., a sister, Mrs Clara BAKER, Woodsfield; three brotheres, Henry and Loami Perkins, Bethesda and Thomas Perkins, Beallsville. The body was removed to the Kelley funeral home, Belmont, where services will be conducted saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. C.G. Bloor, will officiate.
