Among them, and perhaps nearly in the order named were J.J. Kester, Jos. Campbell, Mr. Wood, Mr. Brooks, George W. Martin, James Washburn, who distinguished himself in the army and reached the rank of Colonel; Miss Angie Yost, Miss M. Patton, Miss S. Patton, Mr. Schoolcraft, Mr. Cochran, and Rev. C. C. DAVIS. Woodsfield-1895 The Churches The Church of Christ in Woodsfield was organized in 1845 by Elder Wesley Laudpher. The present structure, a large brick building with dressing rooms and baptistry attached was erected in 1859. David Kirkbride and James Cunningham were trustees at the time, and trhough their energy and the haeaty co-operation of the membership the building was completed and paid for, and is, although over 35 years old, a credit to the town. The contractors who built this house of worship were Marshal Morrow and William DAVIS. It cost, originally $4000, and was dedicated in the fall of 1859 by the celebrated Alexander Campbell, founder of the Christian church.
