    1. Re: [OHMONROE] Info on an Amos and Mary Elizabeth Curtis
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bcdriggs Surnames: Curtis, Smith, Gardner, Cummings, Hollister, Freeman Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.monroe/1090.1.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I don't remember why I picked up the "L" in Joseph's name, but I do remember at one time in my search I found someone from what appeared to be West Virginia that might be the right person. Obviously, West Virginia did not exist as a state at the time period I was looking for, so perhaps Joseph from Virginia was the same person. I would like as much info as is available for the Smith and Gardner families to add to my notes, if it is convenient for you -- thanks. I have no idea at this time who Willard Harrison Curtis was -- perhaps he's in my notes -- but Kate was the daughter of Nelson Curtis and Mary Ann Freeman. Nelson was the son of Eli Curtis, brother to Ezra, which makes Kate and James LeRoy second cousins (assuming the material I have been given is correct!). Herman's wife was Lua Frances Cummings, daughter of James Francis Cummings and Alice Mabel Hollister. My father (LeRoy Franklin Curtis) was named for both his grandfathers through the use of their middle names, but the family thought James Francis was James Franklin because he went by the name of Frank. My father joined the navy after finishing high school in Quimby, Iowa, and while he was stationed in the Norfolk, VA area met and married my mother, whose father (from northeastern NC) was in that area with the coast guard. I was born in the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA, but my brother was born in Iowa because we lived there during WWII. Please let me know whatever else I can help you with -- it's the least I can do. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
