Spirit of Democracy November 23, 1911 Sardis The date has been set for the Alumni reception for December 26. Great preparations are being made by the home town alumni to entertain those who will be home for the holidays. Fred Moser arrived Monday from Winkler's Mills and has taken charge of the restaurant which he bought a few weeks ago. Miss Mary Bowen and June Elliott of New Martinsville spent Thursday evening here with her cousin Maude Ryne. William Busche and bride arrived Thursday evening from Pittsburg for a visit with his parents above town. Mrs. E. D. Moore has returned to her home in Parkersburg after a few days visit here with her sister. Miss Lura Bennett of Los Angeles, California, was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boetticher last week. Mrs. George Case of Parkersburg is here at the beside of her father J. M. Goodwin who is very poorly. Mrs. W. L. Knapp of Sistersville spent Friday here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Cunningham. A. E. Griffon, one of our prosperous merchants, was a business caller in Wheeling Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Witschy of Dairy were business callers here and at New Martinsville Friday. E.E. Campbell and Charles A. Eisenbarth of West Union were business callers here Saturday. About thirty from here went to Sistersville Monday night to hear the Victorian Serenaders. Mrs. Priscilla Farmer has returned home from a month's visit with her son at Martins Ferry. Mrs. John L. Harman and son Gordon of Marietta are guests of her parents here. George P. Goodwin is here on account of the serious illness of his father, J. M. Goodwin. E. W. Litten of Ellwood city, Pa., is spending a short vacation here with his family. Miss Ada Knight spent Sunday in Wheeling the guest of Elva Anderson. George Case was up from Parkersburg Sunday at the Goodwin home. Harry Theiss of Steubenville is the guest of his parents at this place. Lester Griffith ad sister Lucille spent Thursday evening in Hannibal. Dr. S. C. Griffith was a professional caller in Sistersville Thursday. Miss Elizabeth Garden is able to be out after a few days illness. Jacob Yoss, sr., of Morton was a business caller here Friday. Prof. W. J. Gorrell is teaching class in music at West Union. George F. Moffett was transacting business here Thursday. Eugene D. Thompson was a Sistersville visitor Thursday. Miss Margaret Dunn was shopping in Wheeling Saturday. Clyde Paden left Friday for a short visit at Alliance. Miss Ina Dunn arrived Tuesday from Woodsfield. Mrs. John Drollinger has been ill the past week. Henry W. Ludey was a caller in town Tuesday. Edwin Fankhauser was in town Saturday. W. H. Bruny was on our streets Friday.
