These articles are for the benefit of the genealogy community and should not be harvested and sold for anyone's profit Spirit of Democracy October 28, 1909 Sardis Miss Flora Frey delightfully entertained about fifteen of her girl friends Tuesday evening in honor of her 18th birthday. The house was tastefully decorated in lavender and white. The evening was spent with music and at a seasonable hour refreshments were served. A number of beautiful presents were received by the hostess. Mrs. R. E. Garden entertained the Pythian Sisters at her home on Mound street Friday night with a carpet rag sewing. A number of the sisters were present and spent the evening in a very pleasant manner. A dainty luncheon was served. Mrs. S.C. Griffith and Mrs. William Webb attended the funeral of Miss Eloise McCormick at Sistersville Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. H.C. Powell, Mrs. W. E. Romick and Mr. and Mrs. George M. Towle spent Sunday with Mrs. W.L. Knapp at Sistersville. Homer Richardson and sister Daisy of New Martinsville drove down Sunday and spent the evening at the Nesbitt home. Mrs. Hal Hawkins and children returned home Monday evening from a two weeks visit here with her parents. Mrs. John L. Woodcock of New Martinsville spent Sunday here with her mother Mrs. Harry Ratcliffe. The teachers of our public school attended the O.V.R.T. at Martins Ferry Friday and Saturday. Harry Winland clerk in Richardson's drug store at New Martinsville was at home Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. John Hess and Ruth and Charles attended the Mission Feast at Mt. Zion Sunday. Mrs. Mattie Thompson and Mrs. S.V. Williamson were shopping in Wheeling Wednesday. Capt. Morris Huffman and bride are moving into the Roe property on Monroe street. Mrs. H.C. Powell of Parkersburg is the guest of her sister Mrs. George M. Towle. Mrs. A.C. Vetter and Mrs. Carroll were Wheeling visitors one day last week. Mrs. Foster Carroll of Sistersville visited relatives at this place Thursday. George Hess returned Sunday from a visit with relatives at Clarington. Miss Susan English was down from New Martinsville Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Priscilla Farmer is visiting friends and relatives at Wheeling. Theodore Hornbrook of New Martinsville was on our streets Saturday. Dr. F. W. Shapley was at Hannibal last week on professional business. Miss Kathryne Litten of Wheeling spent Sunday here with her parents. Ed Thompson of Shadyside was in town Thursday and Friday. William Goddard was business caller at Wheeling Saturday. Vernon Mercer of Sistersville spent Sunday with Sardis friends. Harry Winkler and family moved to Paden City last week. Miss Ethel Thompson was at New Martinsville Friday. E.C. Frey was a business caller at Wheeling Monday. George Case was up from Parkersburg Sunday.
