    3. I only have a few more postings. The microfilm ends March 12, 1912--and only had several issues of 1910. Evidently quite a few papers were too badly damaged to be filmed. Will be about 3 or 4 weeks before I get the next batch of film from OHS. I have scrolled past loads of detailed obituaries in these papers--I do not have time to copy them--but for those of you who are "stuck" you may find something worthwhile in these papers. These articles are for the benefit of the genealogy community and should not be harvested and sold for any else's profit. Spirit of Democracy January 11, 1912 (Unavoidably Deferred) The reception by the high School alumni association of Sardis which was held Tuesday night was one of the most auspicious events ever held here. 52 guests were in attendance. The event was held at the K. of P. Hall which was prettily decorated with pennants of the various colleges represented, and also with the High School colors, red and black. The Christmas tree and entertainment given by the Sunday school in the M.E. church last Saturday night was well attended and enjoyed by all. A treat of candy, nuts, etc., was given the members of the Sunday school at the close of the session Sunday afternoon. Fred K. Lemmon of Wheeling was a guest at the home of his sister Mrs. George M. Towle from Sunday until Wednesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Culp and son Ormand returned to their home at Toronto after a pleasant visit at the home of H.C. Thompson. Harry Winland attended the dance at Paden Park Wednesday evening given by the University club of New Martinsville. Harry Winland left Sunday for O.N.U. where he is a student, after a two weeks vacation spent at home. Misses Mary, Mabel and Laura Farmer of Martins Ferry are visiting their grandmother Mrs. P. Farmer. Robert Holmes and daughter Anna left for their home at Fernwood after a short visit with Mrs. C.E. Sole. E. E. Campbell spent Saturday and Sunday here at the home of John Bachman and family. Prof. John E. Boetticher of Wooster is spending the holiday vacation here with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Gano and son Earle of Wheeling spent Christmas here with relatives. Fred Theiss and sons Henry and James of Pittsburg spent Christmas here with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. C.K. Gano and children Neva and Chester spent Christmas here with relatives. Miss Erna Litten is at home for a two weeks vacation from her school work in Wheeling. Prof. and Mrs. P.E. Fraley attended the banquets at this place Tuesday evening. Mrs. Gordon Late of Bridgeport, W.Va., is the guest of her parents above town. Miss Mattie Dunn of Hannibal visited her cousin Margaret Dunn several days. Mrs. Mary E. McIntyre is spending the week among relatives at Shadyside. Miss Winifred Voegtley of Hannibal was the guest of Lucile Griffith last week. Frank Bachman of Benwood spent the past week here with his parents. Banks and Bessie Bartley of Sistersville were callers in town Wedneay. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Stewart December 26. Hugo Hesson left Friday for Belpre, Ohio, for a few days visit. Charles and George Hess of Avalon spent Christmas at home. H. Martin is home from Pittsburg for the holiday vacation. Miss Golia Farmer of Clarington is visiting relatives here. Charles Barker was a business caller at Sistersville Friday. Miss Mae Harman visited relatives in Marietta last week. John Jackson was home from Marietta over Sunday. Arguile Price of Paden City was in town Sunday. Miss Mabel Rist visited in Wheeling last week. J.H.
