Spirit of Democracy January 25, 1912 Sardis A jolly crowd of girls took a sleigh ride Friday night, going to the home of Miss Elizabeth Nieman where they spent the evening in a very delightful manner. Those enjoying the hospitality of the Nieman home were Mrs. George H. Martin, Misses Evalyn Nesbitt, Maude Ryne, Hattie Thompson, Erma Vetter, Flora Frey, Grace Bowery, Lucille Griffith, Phebe Merckle, Elizabeth Garden, Mable Rist, Ina Dunn, Jeannie Litten, Sylvia Smittle, Margaret Hedinger, Ella Hossman, Lillian Klotzley, Margaret Dunn, Ethel Winland and Messrs. Alex Hedinger and Carl Denbow. Miss Elizabeth Garden very pleasantly entertained the "Left Overs" at her home Saturday evening. A very enjoyable evening was spent and at the late hour super was served. Miss Mary Griffith entertained at her home on Mound street Saturday night in honor of her eleventh birthday. Twenty two were present. A crowd of girls went sleighing to Hannibal Monday and spent the evening at the home of Miss Emma Leap where a lunch was served. Charles Thompson arrived home Sunday form the West Virginia oil fields where he has been employed the past few weeks. Mrs. Robert Anderson and daughter Elizabeth of Toway, Ohio, are guests at the home of Lee Anderson above town. R.E. Garden left Friday for his work in the oil fields near Ashland after week's visit here with his family. Mrs. S.V. Williamson entertained the Ladies' Aid Society Thursday afternoon at her home on Main street. Miss Lucile Griffith spent Saturday and Sunday with Miss Lillian Kloetzly at her home in the country. Prof. L. Fred Griffon of Armstrongs Mills spent Saturday and Sunday here with his family. John Griffith of Moundsville is visiting at the home of his brother Dr. C.S. Griffith at this place. Word was received here Saturday morning of th death of Mrs. David Hissom at Wittens. Prof. W.J. Gorrell left Saturday morning for his school work at St. Mary, W.Va. Miss Maude Ryne and Mrs. C.E. Sole were shopping in New Martinsville Monday. Dr. S.C. Griffith was a business caller at Moundsville Friday and Saturday. Miss Elizabeth Garden was shopping in New Martinsville Wednesday.
