Spirit of Democracy June 22, 1911 Sardis (crowded out of last week) The Annual Memorial service Sardis Lodge no. 517 K. of P. was held in the Methodist Episcopal church Sunday at 2;30 p.m. The following program was carried out: (just listing the names included in this program-SRK) C. H Weigelt Wm. Goddard Rev. J. W. Rush Rev. W. M. Schultz Rev. J. D. Kaho E. H. Hart At the close of the services a line of march was continued to the cemetery where decoration service were conducted by the local lodge.In addition to the Sardis lodge there were present the members of the Uniform Rank of Sistersville and New Martinsville companies, Dulin lodge of New Martinsville, Fairview lodge of New Matamoras, Monarch lodge of Sistersville Pythian Sisters. Music was furnished by the new Matamoras band. Sunday, June 18, Memorial services will be held at New Matamoras. the local lodge accompanied by the Pythian Sisters will attend. William Dunn and wife left Sunday for Hamilton, Ohio, as delegates to the Grand Lodge. Mrs. George P. Goodwin was at Parkersburg last week attending the commencement exercises of the High School. Her niece Miss Mary Case was one of the graduates. Donald J. Martin left Wednesday evening for his home in Brookfield, Mo., after a five week's visit here with his many relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Baxter and daughter Viola were up from New Matamoras Sunday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Watters. Mrs. Ed Carter and daughter Gladys have returned to their home in Wheeling from week's visit here with relatives. Miss Ava Gautschie and Neal English of New Matamoras visited with Misses Jennie and Erna Litten over Sunday. Charlie Hornbrook and Mr. Stope of New Martinsville were business callers here the first of the week. Mrs. H. C. Powell of Parkersburg arrived Wednesday for a visit with her sister Mrs. George M. Towle. Rev. A. E. Harper of Jerusalem preached in the Christian church Sunday afternoon and night. Miss Helen Frey of Ellwood City, Pa., is visiting with her cousin Miss Flora Frey at this place. Miss Mary Stanard of Webster Springs, W.Va., is visiting with relatives at this place. Miss Mae Harman has been visiting relatives in Marietta the past two weeks. Miss Sylvia Smittle was shopping in New Martinsville Saturday afternoon. Gene Thompson left Wednesday for Lakeville, Ohio, to work in the oil field. Miss Maude Ryne was shopping in Wheeling Monday and Tuesday. Miss Mary Farmer of Martins Ferry spent Sunday here with friends. Miss Hazel Bowen is at St. Mary's with her sister Miss Edna.
