J. D. Kaho Spence Wallace John E. Sole, jr., an eight year old lad, was drowned Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the bar below town, while in bathing. His body was recovered at 8:30 Friday morning. The funeral services took place Saturday morning at Mount Olive. Dr. C. S. Griffith and wife and children left Saturday for Jerusalem to attend the funeral of his father Joseph Griffith. Misses Edith and Mildred Renshaw of Mannington, W.Va., are visiting at the home of the aunt, Mrs. Frank Renshaw. The young son of Mr. and Mrs. William Frohme, who has been so seriously ill the past week, is slightly better. Misses Adda Knight, Flora Leibfarth, Ida Strait and Evert Busche attended Institute at Woodsfield last week. Charles E. Bauman returned to his home Monday evening from a few days visit here with his mother. Henry Garden has been visiting his grandparents at Wittens the past week. Mrs. Rose Rowles of Wheeling is spending a few days here with relatives. Sade Brennan of Wheeling is spending this week among friends in Sardis. M.D. Myers of Martins Ferry is visiting with Oliver Gossett and family. A.E. Watters and Dr. F.W. Shapley were at New Matamoras Thursday. Ed Thompson of Shadyside is visiting at the home of H.C. Thompson.. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. L. Fred Griffon Friday, August 11. Mrs. R.R. Robinson of Hannibal is visiting Mrs. C.R. Stalder. Dr. S.C. Griffith was a business caller in Woodsfield Friday. Charles Dennis and sister Verna were callers in town Friday. Miles Price is visiting with his cousin, William Seibert here. Miss Maude Ryan was shopping in Wheeling Saturday. Miss Helen Lorve is away on a trip to Buckeye Lake.
