Spirit of Democracy April 20, 1911 Sardis (crowded out of last week) George Tubaugh has returned from Wheeling where he has been working for some time, and has opened a butcher shop in the Vetter building on Mound street. Mrs. Sam Hofer was called here this week from her home in Los Angeles, California, on account of the illness of her father, W. T. Dally. Albert Boetticher has returned to Wooster where he will resume his studies after spending the spring vacation here with his parents. Mrs. Ida Bower of New Martinsville and Mrs. William Rude of McMechen, W.Va., spent Saturday here with Miss Maude Ryne. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Sole have rented the Litten property on Muskingum street and will go to house keeping in the near future. Mrs. John Harman and son Gordon of Marietta are guests of her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hissom at this place. Salathiel Lemmon has returned to him home in Wheeling after a pleasant visit here with his daughter Mrs. Towle. Mrs. Caroline Mellott and Miss Bessie Baird of Bellaire spent Saturday and Sunday with Mrs. J. K. Rush. Miss Jennie Litten taught the primary room in school Friday during the absence of Miss Mae Harman. George and Harold Goddard of Woodsfield spent the past week here with their brother William. A. E. Witten and S. Lemmon attended the funeral of Bruce Talbott at New Matamoras Sunday. The Ladies' Aid Society postponed its excursion to Wheeling on account of unfavorable weather. Miss Lucile Griffith spent Saturday and Sunday with Miss Ida Ratcliffe at New Martinsville. Miss Mae Harman attended the Ohio Valley Round Table at Bellaire Friday and Saturday. Miss Ethel Winland is spending this week in Wheeling with her sister, Mrs. Hal Hawkins. Mrs. K. G. Nelson and children were guests of relative in Parkersburg Monday. J. B. Fisher of New Lexington, Ohio, was a business caller at Sardis Saturday. Earnest Witschy and wife of Dairy were transacting business in town Friday. Rev. Tompkins of Jacksonburg, W.Va., was in town a few days last week. Evert Busche attended the teachers' examination in Woodsfield Saturday. George Martin is moving into the Baxter property on Muskingum street. Mrs. Minnie Coffield is home from a lengthy visit at Wittens with relatives. W. T. Dally who has been seriously ill the past two weeks is improving. John Bachman of West Union was a business caller in town Saturday. Miss Adda Cline is visiting her sister, Mrs. C. K. Gano in Wheeling. Miss Mabel Rist is visiting relatives and friends in Hannibal. Miss Nellie Martin was shopping in Sistersville Saturday. Our public schools observed Arbor Day Friday afternoon. Miss Maude Ryne was shopping in Wheeling Thursday. Miss Alice Snell of Sistersville spent Sunday at home. Fleming Cehrs of Benwood was in town Saturday. Capt. S. V.
