Spirit of Democracy July 20, 1911 Sardis Misses Erma Vetter, Lena Hess, Ethel Thompson, Clara Hess, Ethel Winland and Mrs. D.J. Martin attended the ballgame at Paden Park Tuesday afternoon. Herbert and Carl Wolf and Nile Ratcliff of Wheeling and Roy Vetter of Washington, D.C. are here spending a two weeks vacation at the home of A.C. Vetter. Miss Erma Vetter was at New Martinsville Saturday evening calling on Miss Lula Muhleman, who has been quite ill for the past six weeks. Mrs. G. W. Pumphrey and two daughters of Wheeling arrived Saturday evening for a visit with her sister Mrs. Ed Siebert. Mrs. George P. Goodwin left Thursday for her home in Pittsburg after a lengthy visit here with her husband's people. Mrs. Will Cunningham and two children of Wheeling arrived Tuesday for a visit with Mrs. Oliver Gossett and family. A. E. Watters and Dr. F. W. Shapley left Saturday evening for a trip to Lansing, Mich., and several points in Canada. Fred Zeh and family of Wheeling were callers here Saturday on account of the illness of his father. Miss Neva Gano of Wheeling arrived Sunday to spend her vacation here with her grandparents. George H. Martin was at home over Sunday from his work in the West Virginia oil fields. The Epworth and Junior Leagues of this place picnicked at Paden Park Tuesday. Miss Mary Titus of Huntington, W.Va., is visiting with her cousin Maude Ryne. Miss Maude Ryne visited with Mrs. Ida Bowen at New Martinsville Wednesday. Frank Knoke of Woodsfield was a caller in town Saturday afternoon.
