Spirit of Democracy Sardis The K. of P. lodge of this place gave their annual banquet Friday evening in K. of P. hall of Fifth avenue which was well attended and highly enjoyed by all present. The Knights, accompanied by their ladies, were all there, likewise the Pythian sisters of this place, and several Knights from New Martinsville were also in attendance. These annual banquets are always enjoyed by our people who are fortunate enough to be invited. The one hundredth anniveristy of the birth of Lincoln was appropriately celebrated by our people who were invited to the M.E. church in the afternoon by the teachers of our public school, where a program of recitations, drills, songs, and orations were given by the pupils, who acquitted themselves like men. The spacious auditorium was well filled by patrons and pupils who were well pleased with their entertainment. A special program for Epworth League was held Sunday night on the subject of Freedman's Aid and Southern Education. Miss Adda Cline was leader. The fourth number of the High School lecture course will be given Friday evening February 19, by Carter's Original Carolinian Jubilee Singers. A number of K. of P.'s from New Martinsville came down Thursday evening and attended lodge. Two candidates were initiated into the mysteries of the order. The officers of Epworth League held a meeting Friday night at the home of the president Miss Mae Harman. James A. Bowen and wife of New Martinsville were in attendance at the K. of P. banquet here Friday evening. Miss Kathryne Litten left Monday morning for Wheeling where she has a position in a millinery store. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wingrove of Clarington spent Sunday here at the home of Mrs. Oliver Gossett. Rev. George W. Robey of the U.P. church is conducting revival services at the Mt. Olive appointment. Mrs. W.L. Winland returned home Tuesday from a weeks visit with her daughter at Wheeling. Ed. Sole and Miss Stella Tubaugh of Hannibal attended the K. of P. banquets Friday evening. Ford English and bride arrived Wednesday evening for a short visit with his brother. O.C. Beisel is home from Pittsburg where he has been employed for some time. H.C. Thompson and granddaughter Rose Drollinger were at Wheeling Sunday. Miss Mae Harman spent Saturday and Sunday with her brother at Marietta. Misses Ethelyne Winland and Ella Thompson were shopping in Sistersville Monday. John Litten and Will Romick of Wheeling spent Sunday here with their families. Miss Ethel Thompson entertained a few friends at her home Tuesday evening. Miss Maude Ryne has returned home from a business trip to East Liverpool. James Williamson of Wheeling has been visiting relatives here the past week. Miss Elizabeth Garden was shopping in New Martinsville Friday. John Gehring is able to be out after a several weeks illness. Miss Jennie Litten was at New Martinsville Monday.
