Doug, I have your Garrison Conley in Monroe County, OH and married to Rebecca Sole. Garrison is at: http://www.floop.com/fam00540.htm His father is William Conley at: http://www.floop.com/fam00181.htm William's father, Isaac is at: http://www.floop.com/fam00073.htm All are in Monroe County, OH though William and Isaac were probably born in Greene or Fayette County PA. When Monroe County was created about 1825 a whole slew of folks left Greene County, PA for Monroe County, OH where they obtained land patents. Your Conley's married into my Price, Dennis, and Hickman families, all of which migrated from Greene County, PA between 1810 and 1830. There are 21 Conleys in my files going back to 1787. Just keep clicking live links at these URLs and you'll find them all: http://www.floop.com/surnames.htm http://ww.floop.com/genealogy.htm BTW, I even show a Mozena in your line, which is very interesting: 1. JOHN2 MOZENA (NICOLAS1 MOUGINOT) was born July 04, 1749 in Mont-le-Vignoble, Province of Lorraine, France, and died February 03, 1830 in Monroe Co., OH. He married HANNAH (ANER) FOOTE March 04, 1784 in Newtown, Fairfield Co., CT, daughter of ELIJAH FOOTE and EUNICE PECK. She was born Abt. 1764 in Newtown, Fairfield, CT, and died Aft. 1805 in West Virginia or Ohio. Notes for JOHN MOZENA: John Mozena was born and baptized as Jean Mouginet on the 4th day of July 1747 in Mont le Vignoble,(Mount of the Vinyard) Lorraine, France. His parents were Nicholas Mouginet and Elizabeth Longer. His Godfather was Jean (John) Hassoux of Jeune De Choley and his Godmother was Donna Laine Longer, the spouse of Jean Hassoux. Jean (John) began his military service in France on November 20, 1773. He served under Viscounte de Cuistine (1780) and Viscounte de Rochambeau (1782) in the Compagnie Baron de Ferrete, Regiment de Saintonge which was under the command of Comte de Rochambeau. Rochambeau's expeditionary force arrived in Connecticut in July, 1780 and was put under General Washington's command. The Regiment distinguished themselves at the Battle of Yorktown, which was attacked on September 28, 1781 by French and American forces. Yorktown fell and was surrendered by General Cornwallis on October 19, 1781. This was later determined to be the turning point of the war. Jean was also listed in Philio Schuyler's Regiment of the New York Militia. His name was recorded as John Msene on a Receipt Roll. It is not known what the circumstances were or why he joined the New York Militia and remained in America instead of returning to France with his troops in 1783. After the war ended, he settled in Newtown, Fairfield County, Connecticut where he married Hannah(Aner) Foote, the daughter of Elijah Foote, who was also a Revolutionary War veteran. He bought two parcels of land in Newtown in 1787 and 1795. In 1800 he sold his property and set out for Virginia (which is now West Virginia) and settled in West Liberty, Va. (Now West Liberty, WVa, just east of Wheeling, WVa.) When the U. S. government granted land warrants to the Revolutionary War veterans, John moved his family to Monroe County, Ohio and took a half section of land on a ridge west of Buckhill Bottom which was approximately two miles north of Bares Landing, later renamed Baresville, and presently known as Hannibal, Ohio. The ridge he lived on was called Frenchman's Ridge, named after John, (Who was called "Frenchy" and "Frenchman") he was the only Frenchman that lived in the area. This ridge is presently now known as Long Ridge. The Mozena name became well known along the Ohio River after the family entered the business of building boats at Clarington, Ohio. Several of the boats built there that later having meaning in history were: Avalon, Ruth #2, City of Wheeling, Liberty, and the Louise. There were at least another 20 ships that John's business built, most of them were packet and tow boats hauling freight and passengers on the Ohio River and its tributaries. The "Liberty" was one of the most famous, towing a showboat with the Major Bowes Amateur Hour aboard. The "Avalon" was famous (locally) for it's 5 A.M. wake up whistle and daily trips up to Wheeling, Va. (WVa) The longest known existing boat that John built was the "Louise", she was known to be still in operation in 1969! Note: Various records show John's family name spelled a number of ways; Mysener, Msene, Mozene, Mozeny, Maginet, Maginot, Mogenot, Moginot, Mozeney, Mozseney, and lastly Mozena. Birth records of eight of John and Hannah's children were found in a church record in Newtown, Connecticut." John Mozena's grave site is located in the Ollom, (also spelled Ollum and Ullom) - Opossum Creek cemetery located south of Clarington, Ohio (Salem Twp.) on Monroe County Road 26, approximately 1.2 miles west of State Route 7. His original gravestone is engraved as follows: "In memory of John Mozeney Who departed this life Feb. 3d, 1830. In the 83rd year of his Age." His gravestone had been restored by the Ohio Historical Society and has his surname spelled "Mozena." This is the spelling that has been carried on by the modern day family. Note: Buckhill Bottom is now called Fishers Hill, it is Ohio Township Road 418. More About JOHN MOZENA: Burial: Unknown, Ollom Cemetery, Monroe County, Ohio (County Road 26) Notes for HANNAH (ANER) FOOTE: Although there is only John's grave marker in Ollom Cemetery (also known as Opossum Creek Cemetery), Hannah is reputed to be buried along side her husband.
