    3. Spirit of Democracy August 10, 1911 Pythian Day will be celebrated by Sardis Lodge No. 517 K. of P. with their fifth annual picnic in Nesbitt's orchard, Sardis, Ohio. August 19. Races, contests, good speaking, entertainment, music, two brass bands, two ball games and refreshments on the grounds. Spence Wallace, Grand Chancellor of Steubenville, will be present for an address; also, Rev. J.D. Kaho and any other speaker that may be present. Mrs. H.H. Hawkins and children returned to their home in Wheeling Wednesday from a month's visit here with her parents. G.L. Testers and family returned to their home in Huntington, W.Va., Monday after a visit here with relatives. Rev. D. W. Harkins of Woodsfield preached in the Church of Christ at this place Sunday morning and evening. Miss Edna Bowen accompanied by Misses Grimm and Wagner was here Sunday from St. Mary's, W. Va. Roy Vetter left the first of the week for his work in Washington, D.C., after a two weeks vacation at home. Miss Mary Case of Parkersburg, W.Va., is here visiting her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Goodwin. Misses Erma Vetter and Marie Hissom are at Bridgeport, W.Va, visiting with Mrs. Gordon Late. Miss Margaret Dunn returned home Thursday from Wooster where she has been attending school. Mrs. John Drollinger and daughter Rosa have returned from a visit in Fernwood, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Eb. Talbott of Sistersville were calling on relatives here Saturday evening. Dr. S.C. Griffith was called to Jerusalem Sunday on account of the illness of his father. Henry and James Theiss of Pittsburg are spending their vacation here with relatives. William Vetter of Washington, D.C., is here spending his vacation with his parents. Miss Adda Knight is at Woodsfield attending institute and visiting relatives. Will Sole and family of Lawrenceville, Illinois, are here visiting relatives. J.E. Martin of Paden city, W.Va., was a caller in town Saturday evening. Charles E. Bauman of Pittsburg is visiting with his mother at this place. Mr. and Mrs.. Tom Tubaugh of Means, Ohio, are visiting with relatives here. Nile Ratchliffe of Wheeling spent Saturday and Sunday here with friends. Prof W. J. Gorrell was at home Saturday form his work in St. Marys. Carl Wolf and Ed. Richardson left for their home in Wheeling this week. Charles Boetticher and wife are guests of their son John at Wooster. Mr. and Mrs. William Goddard are visiting his parents in Woodsfield. Mrs. D. J. Martin was shopping in Sistersville Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. J.P. Goodwin is home from a visit among friends at Kelsey. J.A. White of Steubenville is here on a business mission.
