The town as it stands now is built on three streets running parallel with the river and two cross streets, Ferry and Main with a third, Church street, ending at Market where the City Hall and M.E. Above Ferry Street the river bottom is narrow and Market street here runs along the hill side there being only room between it and the river for Front street. These two streets are well built up with residences and a few business houses on Front Street wit the residences of two of the Physicians, Dr. WALTON and Dr. Habermehl. The business of the town clings to Ferry street and Market street belwo it, with two of the principal stores, Tyler's and Mallory's on Main street at the food of which is the landing... Dr. Wm. Walton took his nativity here in 1835 and from 1854-1857 studied medicine with Dr. Pierson, of Woodsfield, graduated in medicine and surgery at the Columbia University, Washington, D.C., March 15th, 1859. Practiced five years at New Castle and Woodsfield. Entered the army as Assistant Surgeon of the 25th Ohio Infantry at 1862, and was mustered out June 27th, 1866 at Columbus, Ohio. Practiced at Woodsfield eleven years, and came here in 1877. Dr. Walton has an enviable reputation as physician and surgeon and has an extensive practice. Office on Ferry street and residence on Front. Woodsfield, Ohio 1895 Mayor W.V. Walton - Attorney at Law On the third page of to-day's paper will be found a splendid picture of Mayor W.V. Walton, who is a prominent young attorney of the town and a member of the law firm of Weems, Walton & Cocke. Mr. Walton is a son of Judge R.K. Walton, and was born at Cameron, Ohio, on the 7th day of August, 1860. He moved with his parents to Clairington when quite young, where he attended the public schools until sufficiently educated to teach, when he engaged in that profession. A few years later he came to Woodsfield and served as deputy clerk of the Probate Court for six years, during his father's two terms as Probate Judge. In preparing for the practice of Law, Mr. Walton read with Hunter and Mallory at this place, and then attended law school at Cincinnati, graduating with high honors from that institution in 1886. Returning to this county he engaged in his chosed profession, and has succeeded in working up a good practice. As evidence of his worth and high standing in the community he has been elected Mayor of the town two times and has been twice appointed to fill vacancies in this office, making his service extend over a period of eight years, during which time he has given the very best of satisfaction. Mr. Walton was married in 1889 to Miss Laura Thornberry, eldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. A.E. Thornberry, prominent citizens of this place, and owns a neat and nicely furnished home on Paull street.
