Hi Michael, While researching KNOWLTON, I found this in the 1870 Monroe Co. census, Bethel Twp: Living in the household of William KNOWLTON, 35, b. OH, farmer, and Malissa WILLIAMS KNOWLTON, 26, b. OH, with 6 children 9 and under: DIRTH, James age 74 b. OH retired farmer The implied birth year for James DIRTH would be 1796. I see from your posting that William DEARTH (b. 1780) married Susan WILLIAMS. Do you have any idea whether Malissa WILLIAMS was related to Susan WILLIAMS? Malissa's father was Levi WILLIAMS, who lived north of Graysville in Washing- ton Twp. on the Wayne Twp. line. Is it possible that James was a much younger brother of William DEARTH? The 1869 land map of Bethel Twp. shows James DEARTH's land in the NE corner, with Wm. KNOWLTON adjacent to the west, James KNOWLTON adjacent to the south, and "Barna" DEARTH a quarter section away from James DEARTH to the east. There are no DEARTHS shown in 1869 in Washington Twp, where Graysville is located, but there's an A. WILLIAMS southwest of Graysville near the M.E. Church. The reason I'm interested in the DEARTHs is because my gg- grandfather, Thomas J. KNOWLTON (1846-1932) divorced his wife, Hulda Jane NALLEY (1845-1927) and married Mary Frances DEARTH in 1878 in Tyler Co. WV. Thomas was the brother of the William KNOWLTON with whom James DIRTH was living in 1870. I believe that Thomas and Mary Frances remained in West Virginia after their marriage. Any idea how the DEARTH/WILLIAMS/KNOWLTON connections work here? Betsy
