Bridgeman, is still standing (partly wrecked by the flood of 1884) on the river bank near the landing. Main street runs north direct fromthe landing and has on it near the river the Ohio Valley House, the planing mill, and near its upper end, where it crosses Fifth Avenue, is the brick residence of Dr. Roe. Esq. Martin lives onthe corner of this and Mound Street, and on the corner west of his, is the residence built from the remains of the first school house, and below this toward the river, a hotel, one store and a small grocery. East of the planing mill, surrounded by a cluster of trees, standst hte residence of A.R. BRIDGEMAN, one of the oldest settlers remaining in the neighborhood. Mr. BRIDGEMAN's father was one of the early settlers, who came here from Vermont, many years ago, remaining here tull the time of his death, which occured in 1881. Jacob Wagnor Esq, acting as coroner, called a jury, who after due examination found by their verdict that the deceased came to his death by drowning. the testimony makes it appear that he was a young man who fell overboard from the steamer "New State" at Lodi, a short time since. The coroner's return gives the following description of his clothes: two pair of pants; one pair black; one pair gray mixed; two check shirts; one pair coarse shoes and wollen socks. Nothing was found in his pockets but a knife handle, a comb, and a broken pipe stem.
