Brown, 75, of Troy Road, five miles north of Ashland, died at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He had been ill with a heart ailment. Mr. Brown was born in Monroe county, the son of Isaac and Hannah Kaylor* Brown. He had been a resident of Ashland county for the past 40 years and was affiliated with the Church of Christ, Fourth and Carroll streets. He was married in 1888 to Eliza Strickling. He was a farmer for many years. Survivors are his wife; a son, Elvy Brown of Jeromesville; a daughter, Mrs. Lester Keener of Troy street; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Wm. Brown of Ashland; four sisters, Mrs. Matilda Webber** of Louisville***; Mrs. Lida Anna Cissel of Woodsfield; Mrs. Alice Baker of Ashland and Mrs. Lota Jackson of Sardis. His parents, a great grandchild, three brothers and two sisters preceded Mr. Brown in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ, Fourth and Carroll streets. Rev. Raymond Norris of Mt. Vernon will be assited by Rev. J.H. Steed. Burial is to be made at Nankin. The body will remain at the Gilbert Funeral Home on Claremont avenue where friends may call from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. It will lie in state from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. I recently flew to Ohio and did a mad dash around numerous cemeteries researching my Strickling, Baker, Yoho,Cronin, Tucker etc relatives. I drove the Old National Trail From Columbus Ohio to Washington Co PA. After photgraphing the Tucker M.E. Church and Cemetery,which is on land donated in the late 1700's by my ggggggrandfather John Tucker,We spent the evening in Weirton W. Va. In the morning we set off and traveled the scenic byways through Powhaton Point, Clarington, Woodsfield and onto Barnesville. We took hundreds of pictures along the way and met distant cousins everywhere we went. After having read so many accounts of the adventures of our ancestors over the years, i seemed to "see" them along the banks of the Ohio river fighting the natives who were treed and waiting to spring out at them. I "saw" the women trying to make a comfortable home along the beautiful but rugged landscape, carrying water from the river to cook and clean. There is definitely something to be said for standing in the spot where the ancestors once were and somehow still are. I am posting many of the pictures in several locations. I have put 116 pictures from The Barber Ridge Cemetery, Woodsfield, Monroe Ohio on my blog and will be posting them to FindAgRave.com as well. A young fellow named Kyle was manning the store and after talking to him found that his father was Doug Yoho who had lived there all of his life and I believe he said his grandfather was Robert Yoho. Kyle is researching his Civil War Yoho's as he likes to be involved in reenactment. So I guess this love for family history is being passed along. He had visited the Yoho webpages often and found a lot of helpful info there he said Well then, there you have it. I have pictures to post!
