    1. [OHMONROE-L] JAMES and SCHAUB Families (also BARRACKMAN, WINDLAND, DENNIS, LEMMON)
    2. Nancy
    3. This is a rather convoluted group. I'm hoping someone might recognize some of these people as they seem to be a number of brick walls for me! Sorry for the duplication for those who are members of all three lists but they seem to have bounced between all three counties. Sabina JAMES born abt Dec 1824 married Jacob SCHAUB in Guernsey County on 22 Jul 1844. I believe Sabina was the daughter of Thomas and Hannah JAMES and believe Thomas died abt 1836. Possible siblings for Sabina are Mary, Elizabeth, and Thomas. On 14 Jul 1849, Jacob married Elisabeth MISSEL (MISEL) in Morgan County. A physician, he is mentioned in the 1887 history of Noble County as residing for a short time around 1850 at Crooked Tree which is where Elisabeth was living. I have yet to locate Jacob and Elisabeth in an 1850 census. Sabina is residing with her mother, Hannah age 59, in Wright Twp, Guernsey County in 1850. Also listed are Margaret SCHALB age 5, and Hannah SCHALB age 3. Sabina and her mother both died in 1851, Feb and July respectively, and are both buried at Kennonsburg, Noble County so am assuming that area was previously Wright Twp, Guernsey.... Jacob and Elisabeth SCHAUB turn up in Sardis, Monroe County in 1860 and remain there the rest of their lives. Listed in the census are two sons, Jacob age 21, and Frederick age 17. Obviously these two predate both of Jacob's marriages. Also listed is a daughter, Catharine whose birthdate appears to be about 6 months prior to Jacob and Elisabeth's marriage. At the time of Jacob's death in 1877, his will lists only one son, Jacob, daughters Christina BARRACKMAN (husband Randolph), Mariah SCHAUB (in will 1873, not in probate in 1877), Margaret DENNIS (husband Adam), and Hannah WINDLAND (husband David). The next sentence mentions Catharine LEMMON (husband Salathiel). Obviously Jacob was married at least three times since he wasn't married to Sabina JAMES long enough or at the right time to account for all of the children. Is anyone researching the JAMES'? Who was Jacob's first wife? Jacob filed for divorce from Sabina in Monroe County in 1848 or so but the case was thrown out. When or did they actually divorce? Where were Jacob and Elisabeth and the remaining children in 1850? Where were the other children in 1860? Where does Catharine fit in? Where and when did the various children marry? What happened to any of them? Do I sound irriated with this group? Nancy
