Soldiers from Monroe County enlisted in many units such as the 26th OVI, 78th OVI, 116 th OVI and several Virginia (West) units. Note that these units were loyal to the Union not the Confederacy. If you try www.ancestor.com and do a search on a name you will get a free access to a civil war data base that will list muster in and out date and normally rank or even military specialty. You know that would be a pretty neat genealogical project to record the participation of Monroe Countians in the Great War of Rebellion as it was called. I wonder what the Historical Society has on the subject? Along the same lines I am interested in the Underground Railroad in Monroe County. This is a very interesting and worthy thread and I would very much like to see a large response. -----Original Message----- From: Paul Dyer <pmdyer@netins.net> To: OHMONROE-L@rootsweb.com <OHMONROE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, March 22, 2000 10:51 PM Subject: [OHMONROE-L] Civil War soldiers >Posted on: Monroe Co. There is only one soldier listed as being from Monroe County, OH. Most never gave a residence so it would be difficult to track. Nathan S Ruch is the one soldier Joan ----- Original Message ----- From: Tim Morton <timmorton@friend.ly.net> To: <OHMONROE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 23, 2000 5:36 PM Subject: Re: [OHMONROE-L] Civil War soldiers > Soldiers from Monroe County enlisted in many units such as the 26th OVI, > 78th OVI, 116 th OVI and several Virginia (West) units.
