    3. Spirit of Democracy March 14, 1895 Sardis Deferred from last week. A crowd gathered at the home of Miss Jennie Joy Monday evening and Arch Branen entertained them with music. Mr. and Mrs. Will Stoehr returned home Saturday after a two weeks' visit with Woodsfield friends. Miss Emma C. Stoehr returned home Sunday from Wittens, accompanied by Mr. Charles Kelley. The new store of A.C. Vetter (copy cut off here) ..improvement to the town. The ice broke Friday morning which was a great excitement to some our young folks. There will be an entertainment the last day of school and everybody is invited to come. We are glad to say that they are pumping at the Nesbitt oil well and think they will get oil. Mr. William Romick was at New Martinsville Wednesday on a pleasure trip. Mr. Sherd Pattison of Wittens was here Wednesday on business. Mr. Hugh Hoskins of Hannibal was here one day this week. Rev. Martin preached an excellent sermon Tuesday evening. Mr. Sheets of Bellaire is at the O'Neill home this week. Mr. Samuel Haney of Woodsfield was here Saturday.
