    1. [OHMONROE] Belmont Ohio - Monroe Ohio Genealogy Question For Research
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ce2128 Surnames: Classification: lookup Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.monroe/2290/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ancestry is similar to the LDS Ancestral files. No sort of proof or documentation is required to 'prove' the lines submitted. So, we must treat all undocumented information as clues ONLY, to be proved or disproved with our own research...that is, with primary records such as birth, death, baptismal, marriage, church, tax, census, etc....this sort of record, while certainly not without error, is the best we have, and necessary for something to be accepted as fact. (a secondary resource isn't sufficient...that is, a person/date, etc found in a biography, county history, etc.....only an actual record of an event is primary. If you find a secondary resource, then you must find primary documentation, proving the event.) In earlier times, family names were very important to a new parent........many wished to have, for instance, a daughter named after a grandmother....when little Mary #1 died, in infancy, the next baby girl might also be named Mary. The important thing was not that the name had already been 'given' to a baby, but for there was a child named for Mother. This was a not uncommon occurrence in the 1700s....I had a family that actually had 3 infant girls given the same name.
