This was found on the Phillips Co., Kansas rootsweb page and thought it might be of some interest to some of these families. Taken from The Kirwin Kansas - Thursday June 29, 1939 Andrew Jackson King Obituary Andrew Jackson King, son of John W. and Martha M. King was born in Monroe County, Ohio, on March 31, 1858, where he grew to young manhood. On Nov. 24, 1879 he was united in marriage to Eliza Jane Carpenter. To this union 7 children were born, - two sons and five daughters. On May 17, 1892 his wife passed away, leaving him to care for a family of small children. In Sept. of 1900, he came to Kansas, and on August 21, 1902, he was united in marriage to Colista Ellen Farley. They immediately moved to the farm which had been purchased and which has since been their home. Here, "Uncle Andy" as he was known to his friends and neighbors, found great interest and pleasure in improving the farm which he called "Woodsfield" farm. He passed away on June 19, 1939 at the grand old age of 81 years, 2 months, and 19 days. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph W. and one daughter, Anna F. Those left to mourn his loss are his loving wife; one son, Ira X. of Phillipsburg; and four daughters - Rosa Denbow of Woodsfield, Ohio; Martha Brown of Ravenna, Ohio; Iva Decker and Zena Shank of Akron, Ohio; and a great many other relatives and friends. The deceased was a member of a family of eleven children, all of whom have preceded him in death. He is survived by two half-sisters, Oleatha Brown of Logan, Kansas, and Stella Farley of Manteca, California. He has a large number of grandchildren and he has the honor of having four great-grandchildren. Uncle Andy was of a jovial disposition, and was feeling his best until the end came, which was a shock to his many friends and neighbors. The granting of his oft-repeated wish - that when he no longer could help himself, he might not remain to become a burden - is a consolation to his loved ones. "In Heaven thou art now at rest, Free from all cares and pain. I try to think it for the best, And what we lose is but they gain." "Dearest father, thou hast left us. And thy loss we deeply feel; But' tis God that hath bereft us,- He can all our sorrows heal." Funeral services were held at the Delmar Chapel on Wednesday forenoon, June 21, and were conducted by Rev. Jas. G. Roberts of the Phillipsburg Methodist Church. A quartette from Kirwin sang the hymns. The pall bearers were six nephews; Frank, Harry, Lester, Carl, Ralph and Wayne King. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.
