I have researched the census records for 1850, 1860, and 1870 and can find no indication that Sarah (Sallie) Eddy is a member of my direct family line. The wife of Manly (Manley) Hayes (Hays) is listed to have been born in both PA and VA and is given ages with a 10 years difference in one census it is possible that there were two Sarah Hayes. Because my Eddy family resided in PA and VA before coming to OH, it is possible that your Sarah Eddy was a member of one of the collateral lines. It was an enormous family! Thank you to the person who sent this link to a late Christmas Gift. I signed up and it is so easy to use, and there is so much information. I've tested it with some info I already know to check the accuracy and it's great. It's not a highly used site, so it moves fast, and is so very easy to navigate. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Helen asked me to put this on the Belmont County Mailing List. It is with great sorrow that I must announce that the historical research area currently located at the old Mediterranean Restaurant on township road Mediterranean Drive west of Morristown is being closed. The records currently stored at the Mediterranean had been inaccessible for years in various storage areas in the county and some were in a deplorable state. Some of these books date back to 1801. Through the generosity of a lot of people, a few women were able with the help of some of the county employees, to consolidate the records first in the old county poorhouse and then more recently at the old Mediterranean Building. Through the past several years many researchers and local citizens have donated and loaned computers, copiers, furniture, money, etc which made the location to be a welcome and comfortable research area. More recently we have received pictures, artifacts and files which broadened the appeal to the researchers who have come from all over the United States. Through a love of history, donated items and many volunteer hours we were developing a wonderful research area that will be sadly missed by local and visiting researchers. After a recent mischievous break-in, during which nothing was stolen or broken, a decision has been reached by the county commissioners, instead of putting in a security alarm, to remove the records to a currently unknown location and close the Mediterranean thus closing these valuable records availability to researchers who have ties to Belmont County. Anyone who has loaned or donated equipment, files, pictures, etc to the Mediterranean location should contact me immediately to retrieve your property. My telephone number is: 1-740-686-2846; 1-740-359-5507. A special thanks to all those who have donated supplies and time to the venture and a big thanks to all the researchers from around the United States for their support during my years watching over the oldest records of Belmont County. I regret to say that I will no longer be the guardian of these records. I have truly enjoyed working with the wonderful people who have worked with me and others who came to do the research and will sadly miss working with these very old books who have become my friends. It has been a labor of love. Sorry to cross-post this, but I hadn't seen this come across any of the Ohio Rootsweb lists that I'm subscribed to yet. Ohio death certificate images (1908-1953) are now free online. They are the actual images and are indexed and fully searchable. You have to register with familysearch, and it took about a day before mine was approved, but was well worth the wait. I got mine from the Washington County Library in Marietta, Oh. I have census starting with 1830 that puts the Joy family in Monroe County, Oh. All of the children were born in Monroe County. I also use the following site: http://www.familysearch.org/ My only problem is the use of William Levi and Levi. Levi was the son of Matthew Joy and Nancy Smoot. According to the 1850 census which lists Levi's ae at 44, he would have been born in 1806. Several of the family have tried to distinguish between whether William Levi and Levi are the same person. I am going down to Monroe and Washington Counties in Ohio the first of the year. I hope through some major research we can find some answers. I would like to track down family members to see what they can do to shed some light on the families. It is listed there is a William Joy b. 1803 in PA that married Nancy Ellen Cline abt 1832 Their children were all born in Washington County. They are: Phillip 1833, George 1834, Matthew 1836, Eliel 1838, Mordicia Bishop 1840, David 1842, Sarah Jane 1844, Charles W. 1849, John W.(William) 1852, Isac 1854, Nancy Ellen Feb 1847. d. 21 May Boulder, Co.
