You can order them, but I forget how much they are right now - abt $75 or more I think. I had been going to DC about twice a year and rounded up a lot for my family and others, but not going right now. Obediah Pittman applied for a pension Application #548 928, Certificate #514 648 from Ohio. Ruth applied for a pension after he died, but I can't read the dates. Anyway here Application # 645 942 and Certificate # 444 938 from West Virginia. Since a certificate was issued a pension was given both times and they have consolidated the files together. I would offer to pick one up but it might be a while before I get back there. I understand they are going to extend their research hours again after April 15 so perhaps in the spring. The Thomas Dyer in my family died in 1871 and I believe is buried at the Bush's Church Cemetery. I found his wife's grave, Lydia A (Evans) Dyer, and there is another tombstone nearby that looks the same but the engraving is not legible. I looked through census records yesterday and it sure looks like it is the same Obediah. I think Sarah Mellott must have died (probably in childbirth) and he immediately married Ruth Justice. He named a daughter Sarah A. while wed to Ruth and I find a lot of times they name a daughter after their previous dead wife. Have you obtained the Civil War pension file for Obediah that Ruth and he applied for? Those are really helpful in straightening out relationships. I also follow siblings and cousins down the line and try to see if any of them have any information that will help. I didn't find Ruth Justice in the 1850 censu.
