This is my first post to the Monroe County List. I am researching the BATTIN family of Monroe County. I am trying to locate the burial place of my gg grandfather, Jesse BATTIN, who died 4 Jul 1888, probably in Monroe County. Related families were HALL, ROSENBERGER, and other early Quaker families. I am looking for some information on Edward CUNNINGHAM. Edward moved to Monroe County from Belmont County between 1860 and 1866 and took up residence in Salem Twp. He bought 98 acres from Abraham WORKMAN in 1866 and twenty acres from John POTTS in 1868. These parcels are in section 23 and 28, but an 1869 map I saw places the land of EE Cunningham in section 29 just south of Sykes Ridge. He sold the 98 acres in section 23 to John BRYSON in 1870. He died in 1874. The most logical place for him to be buried would be the Sykes Cemetery on the ridge (I don't think that is actually what it is called, tho), but I cannot find a stone. (Members of the ROUSH family are also buried in this cemetery) Questions: Is there a list of the poeple buried in this cemetery (near Clarington) I am looking for Edward's grave. Is anyone familiar with this land so I can place it with some certainty? Also, any info on Edward, his wife Martha and/or the children ( Israel Dallas, Lucy, Samuel, Alffred, Randall, Henry) appreciated. Dan C

Hi everyone, My name is Bill Tyner and my ancestors have been traced to early 1800's Ohio. Specifically, my gr gr grandfather was David Tiner/Tyner, born in Ohio, found living along Conotton Creek near New Cumberland, Tuscarawas County in 1840 US Census. The reason for writing this list is that also in the 1840 US Census, Monroe County, Sunberry Twsp, is another David Tiner family one generation older (between 40-50 years of age). The distance between them appears to be under 100 miles. I would like to find out if anyone has information on the Tiner clan in early Ohio. The Monroe County David had a son he named David NOT my gr gr grandfather. It's obvious then that they are not the same family though I hold out some linkage like nephew/uncle. Elder David Tiner and his wife moved in with their son and appear in a later US Census as part of younger David's home (with tons of kids). Is anyone related to this clan of Tiner/Tyner? Does anyone know if the westward migration Ohio River crossing point was at Wheeling? Was the origin down the Potomac? Thanks, Bill Tyner

Hi List/s, Just a note to let you know my hubby has torn the cartalidge in his right knee-in two different places. We are now waiting to hear when his surgery will be. I will continue to post information on the more common surnames from Belmont & Monroe Counties in Ohio. During this time, I find it difficult to answer individual requests for lookups as rapidly as before. Sincerely, J.L. http://members.tripod.com/~FutureFoods/FutureFoods.html

I have also notice activity with the Baker name. I am interested in a Lura J Junkins (Jenkins) Baker. lura was born 1890 in Monroe County, probably not far from Powhattan Point , which is in Belmont County. In 1910 she is in the census wih John Jenkins (dad, 57), Murpht 53 (mom or step mon?), Lura J is 19 (later went by the name Lew), and Joseph, 14. She also had several other step siblings....Robert, Joh, Jim, Laura, Mary and, Charlie I think she married Mr. Baker and lived in Peden City, West Va. If familiar, please reply. Martha
