Well, I don't agree with some of you. While I think this list is most certainly restricted to genealogy information, I appreciated being made aware of this potentially life threatening scam. We absolutely don't need to know about every little thing but if this notice saves even one woman then it was worth the time it took to read it. I also think comments of a nasty nature should have been directed to the individual by private email, after all, you are free to use your delete button at any time. Common courtesy, compassion, and respect for others are still valuable traits. Patricia Tidd
Cool it Craig....J.L. has posted more information that has been useful to many of us...a kind thought never hurt anyone unless your scam has just been blown. Matt
I just read the message from JL unsubscribing from the list. JL has been considerable help to a lot of people on this list. I think the comments from both Craig Wetsel and Sandra Fergueson were completely out of line and because of their actions we lost a constructive and helpful member from our list. Here's hoping I can read messages of unsubscribing from the two of you in the near future. Bill Reynolds

I am unsubscribing to this list. I spend hours and hours trying to help others and yet when I ask for help no one responds to me, and if I send anything else I am flamed up one side and down the other. Sincerely, J. L.

Regarding 3/18/99 posting by Jeff Lyons I have some information regarding the Garrett family which I believe is the same one that took Ella Piatt to Kansas. I don't have anything about Ella, but there was a Garrett family which left Monroe, around 1867, for Kansas. Alexander Garrett, born 1845, married Margaret Dickson/Dixon on September 27, 1866, in Antioch, Monroe County Ohio. They traveled via flatboat down the Ohio River and then by steamboat up the Mississippi and Missouri rivers to Leavenworth Kansas and the by overland trail to Ottawa County Ks, near the towns of Verdi and Bennington. In March of 1868 they moved to Sedgwick County Kansas and were among the first settlers in that county, and were the first settlers in what is now Derby Kansas. There is a brief mention of them in Derby's webpage at http://derbyweb.com/community.html#history. The 1870 Federal census for Sedgwick County list an Alexander and Margaret Garrett and a daughter, Annie. I don't know if there is connection between Hannah Ferrell-Dixon and the Dixon family of Margaret Garrett. Margaret's parents Andrew and Margaret Dixon, also listed as Dickson, came from Ireland to Pennsylvania, then Jefferson County Ohio, to Monroe County in the early 1830s and finally Kansas in the late 1860s. I hope this helps, I think these are the Garretts that took Ella Piatt to Kansas. Milton McWilliams Omaha, NE

Hello all, Does anyone have any info on these families, and how they tie together? Robert Lyons (1805-1888) married Margaret Guthrie in Tyler County, WV, 1830 Children: Aaron J., James, Mirindy, Hider, Nancy, Charles, Millie Jane (Amelia), Tyler, Frank, John, Katherine, Mary Ann, Alexander (Aleck), Eliza. About 1868 Robert Lyons with wife Margaret, their children Mary Ann, Alexander and Eliza and grandson Linzey Lyons moved to Hannibal, Monroe County. Linzey Lyons married Ella Piatt in Monroe in 1884. Supposedly Ella Piatt was a daughter of William Piatt and Ella Brown. Ella Piatt was b 1864. William Piatt was married also to Precious Keene and Hannah Ferrell-Dixon. Another daughter of William and Ella Piatt, Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) Piatt married Alexander Lyons in 1881. Lizzie Piatt was b 1861. William Piatt and Precious Keene had sons James, Lorenzo, Bejamin, John, Richard, and dau Catherine who were maybe half brothers/sisters to Ella Piatt and Sarah Lizzie Piatt. Ella Piatt was taken by a Garrett family to Kansas as a small child (her mom died at age 7?) and returned to Monroe to live with her uncle John Piatt for 4 years when she was about 17. Also, Precious Keene Piatt had a sister Martha Keene who married a John Brown. Please write back if you have any info on any of the above. Thank you. Jeff Lyons JeffFree@aol.com
