Does anyone know the location of a Peavine Cem? Also I am looking for the location of Owen Frank's Cemetery. From an old Bible record they could be in Monroe or Belmont Counties. Martha

Elisha Leak/Leek born abt 1783 in Maryland wed Margaret Garwood/Lamb/? born anywhere from 1786 to 1900 in either Maryland or Virginia. It changes with the census. They were Catholic as attending a Catholic Church in Monroe Co., Ohio in 1856 for Easter Service. Don't know if any of the family remained Catholic as the ones who west did not. James Frances ended up in West Virginia. Margaret and Julie stayed in Monroe Co., Ohio. George, Bazzle and Elisha went to Wayne Co. Illinois. The children we have found so far are as follows: James Frances Leak born 1815 near Front Royal Warren Co., Virginia Margaret (Lynch) born 1821 District of Colombia Julie (Mann) oven 1823 Maryland or Virginia Bazzle born 1826 Belmont Co., Ohio Elisha Lamb born 1829 Monroe Co. or Belmont Co., Ohio George born 1832 Monroe Co., Ohio With each census several changed their place of birth. I believe there might have been a daughter born between James and Margaret who married a Truax. In 1850 Monroe Co., Ohio census, there is an Ann Truax living with Elisha and Margaret and in 1860 Stillwell Truax is living in Wayne Co., Illinois with George Leak. William Truax was married twice. Both wives were Mary Jane. The second was Mary Jane Fogle who he married in 1843. This Ann and Stillwell were born before that. WE could be way off base. This is a second request for some of the counties involved. Any Leak information welcome. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated. I have Clines from Monroe County and have looked for your Alexander, but he isn't in my data base. However, be aware that I don't have a lot of collateral lines included in my database, only the direct descent - for the most part. Sometime back I transcribed the 1810 Census for Monroe Co. I just reviewed it on the chance your Alexander might be there, but he wasn't. However, there are probably a dozen Clines - one of which could be the father of your Alexander. I also went to the LDS site online. It doesn't look very promising either. Here is what I came up with there: Alexander O. CLINE Sex: M Event(s):Born: 25 Nov 1878 Monroe', 'Ohio Parents: Father: David CLINE Mother: Elizabeth FERRALL ================================= Alexander CLINE Sex: M Event(s):Born: 27 Nov 1832 Gallia', 'Ohio Parents: Father: William CLINE Mother: Jane WOTEN =================================== Alexander H. Looking for the parents of Charles Smith. Charles was born in Clarington, Salam Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio, abt 1830. He marreid Sarah Ann Voorhes on Dec. 30, 1851 near Bellville, Ohio. Hugh Smith Raccoon, Ky.
More on Ballykilcline and Clynes - Ballykilcline means "townlands of the Clines". The town has become associated with the mass eviction of tenants in 1847, during the Potato Famine (the Crown paid their passage to America), but the name goes much farther back, probably to the clearances and plantations of the 1600's, when Protestant Scots from the lowlands were imported into Ireland by the British. The name Clyne is Scottish; after generations in Ireland, the Scots-Irish were also forced off the land and began immigrat- ing to America, beginning in 1717 and continuing up until the Revolutionary War. So there are both German and Scots-Irish Clines, and probably Dutch ones, too. How to tell the difference? If the Scots-Irish stuck to traditional first names, they used Alexander, James, Robert, and William a lot; the Germans seldom did, preferring David, Jacob, Isaac, and other Biblical names. John, Joseph, and George were used by both, and there were always exceptions, especially as time went on and the two nationalities intermarried. But if you can get enough early first names from the same family, you may be able to guess which they were.
Harley, When I first started looking for my Clines in Monroe County, I made lists of all the Clines in various census years. Digging those out, I found the following Clines who don't fit into Linda Kay Anderson's genealogy of the descendants of George Cline Sr.: 1820 (no townships listed): Adam age 26-44 Lewis age 18-26 1830: Lewis Perry Twp. Philip Centre Twp. 1840: Lewis Bethel Twp. Jared Perry Twp. 1850: Alexander Washington Twp. My 1850 list looks incomplete- I probably missed some. Also, my lists were made from the indexes only - I don't have access to full census records. But it certainly appears that there was another Cline family in early Monroe County. Betsy
Has anyone heard or found any information on the Clyne or Cline family from Monroe County circa 1829. Trying to find Alexander Cline and have hit a brick wall. I am doing research on the Brown family, from Center Township, Monroe County. John Brown, Josiah H. Brown, Sr. John Brown married Matilda Drum, nee Ferrell, widow of Henry Drum. Matilda & John were married approximately 9 years, and had 4 sons. Two sons were Lewis, born 1848, Josiah, born 1849 0r 50, and Albert Franklin, born in 1852. John Brown died in 1858, and we have been unable to locate Matilda and sons on 1860 census. She reportedly sold their land to Isabell Brown Hawkins, eldest daughter of John Brown and his first wife and moved west. West Ohio or another state. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jan O'Brien, great grandaughter of John Brown.
Just south of Graysville off route 26 there are 2 cemeteries on Long Run Road. The one to the east is the Church of Christ Cemetery. The one to the west is neglected and has no name marker. Here I found the gravestone of Calvin P. Knowlton, erected by his grandson Elmer E. Knowlton of Wads. (Wadsworth?) Ohio. What is the name of this cemetery? Betsy French

Can anyone tell me about the churches in Green Township around 1872. I'm looking for Christening records as there are no birth records for my Grand Dad Oscar Amos Walters b. Oct. 1872. Thanks so much, Reta a
Betsy Thank you, Thank you,, Mary Katherine States is mine. We have the records for her in the family as born April 15, 1833 and her name as Mary Catherine States. I only had a birth date for her and had assumed she might have died young. With the court house fires in Monroe Co., Ohio I keep having problems. I do have a query in the Monroe Co. Navigator and have all the back copies. I also have 12 volumes of Fedorchak's books, all the printed census records, everything they have printed plus some I got elsewhere. (Don't know what I did to make this print in italics) My Isabella States married a Cline, so the Isabella you have is not mine. Mine died before 1870, but have no death date. Keep waiting on more cemetery books. May have to go back there again in the fall.. Do you have more complete dates on Samuel Hamilton Cline other than just the year? Archibald and Sarah Brewer States had 11 children. I only have Christine unaccounted for now. Sarah, the mother is buried in the Drum cemetery as is Daniel. Samuel and Henry are in cemeteries in Monroe Co., also. I think the Huffmans and Knapps may have left the state. Sarah Smith and Daniel's wife went to Illinois. Thank you, thank you. I can't say it enough. Jerilyn Lappin Koskan of Illinois.

I am looking for the name of my great-great grandfather who was born in Monroe County approximately 1860-1870. My great grandfather was Earl Hubbard born in 1893. I believe the gentleman I am looking for also served as county coroner for some time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks to Tim for posting the information about Linza Drum. Although I'm sure that Tim quoted the newspaper obituary accurately I believe records will show that the parents of Linza Drum would be John BEAVER Drum and Sarah PIATT, daughter of James Piatt Jr and Cathering Moffett. Anyone researching this Sarah PIATT should be aware that even her official death records contains an error naming her brother William as her father. The confusion must have arisen because her father died in 1840, some 72 years before Sarah died in 1912. Laverne Ingram Piatt Ontario, OH
