Hello everyone, my name is James R. Kenney of Waterford, Ohio and I,like the rest of you , am trying to do what sometimes seems impossible, that is, to sort out the family tree. Namely the anticedents , siblings and descendents of George Kenny b. 1760-70. My journey to the past, began about a year ago. I have made a lot of progress, but right now my mysteries seem to be unsolvable, hopefully you may have a few tidbits that would provide me a clue or two. Here is what I have so far; Late spring of 1815, Richard Kenny of Chester, Pa. purchased several tracts of land in Monroe County, Ohio (Marietta Land Office Records). Richard did not occupy those lands, tax records(1821-33) identified him as an absentee land owner. However some of the land (60 ac.,circa 1817-18) was occupied by George(1) and Elizabeth Kenny along with two sons, George(2) b. 1799, DE and Frederick b. 1804-10. Census records (1820-30) indicate that George(1) was about 50 years of age in 1820. He did not appear in the census of 1840, presumably having died sometime after 1830. In 1820 George (1) participated in the formation of Malaga Twp. and was elected as its first constable. By 1826, tax records indicate that George(1) left the farm to live in the town of Malaga, Monroe, Ohio. In 1820 George(1) sold or gave 20 acres to Roger Foley, husband to Barbara Kenny. Foley researchers hint that Barbaras father is a Frederick Kenny (1), but I have found no evidence of that and strongly suspect that she is Georges daughter. The census of 1830 indicates that George(2) and Frederick(2) have left home. George has married Ann Cronin ( f. Michael, m. Pricilla Pulley) and esablished a home in Wayne Twp.,Monroe Cty., Ohio. Of Frederick, there is little information and he possibly migrated to Noble County and later Hocking County. I have not yet explored this branch of the family. George and Ann had 12 children, of which , the eleventh, Alfred is my GGGrandfather. George does not appear in the 1860 census, however, Ann and family continue to 1870s. The Kenneys of Monroe County were primarily farmers, many fought in the Civil War. The name , as recorded often varies ;ie., Kenny/Kenney/Kinney, but what few early headstones that I have found have indicated Kenney as the predominate name. My most perplexing mysteries are; George (1) and Elizabeth Kenny, from whence they came ? Richard Kenny, sibling ,son or other ? Barbara Kenny, daughter, niece or other ? Frederick Kenny (1), did he exist ? Who else is there ? Should anyone have anything to add or disagree with please contact me. A gedcom of my entire file is available, you need but ask. Soon ,I will again trek to Monroe County to continue my quest, should anyone need anything regarding the research of the Kenney s and allied families, Ill do what I can.
