Now believe she may have been born in Monroe County, Jackson Township, or in New Jersey before several DYE families moved to Ohio. On 18 Nov 1813, she married Daniel STINSON, born 10 Aug 1792 near Massieville, Seal Township, Pike County, Ohio. Cloa died in 1831 having had only (I think) one child, Hugh STINSON (1822-1908). The best candidate for her father is WILLIAM DYE, born 1775 in Windsor, Middlesex County, NJ, a son of VINCENT DYE and SARAH ARTEPS. Could someone please help me find any information on a Nicholas Ritz. Nicholas married Sophia Mittendorf and had five children, two of which were born in Ohio Twp., Monroe County, Ohio from 1865 to 1867. I believe that Nicholas was originally from Monroe County and moved out of the area sometime around 1870. Any information on the Ritz family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin Davis

I am at a blank wall with my NICHOLSON line. Nancy Ellen NICHOLSON was b. March 12, 1861 to William b. ca. 1838 who was also a son of William NICHOLSON b. ca. 1808. Does anyone know the ancestry of these men? Nancy was my gr-grandmother and I know nothing about here except the above info plus she gave birth to 11 children and died with a few years afterward. The poor soul was worn out at only 38 years of age. Nancy Ellen NICHOLSON married THomas Ferman GREEN on Feb. 1, 1878 in Monroe Co., I think. I do not have documentation for that date. I know that part of their family were born in Athens Co. but that they moved back to or came to Monroe Co. at some point after 1897 and the birth of their last child. Nancy could have died in Athens Co., I do not know. I just have Bible info for the dates given above. Their children were Minnie, Ida, James Franklin (my line), George, Isaac aWilliam, Mary, Fannie, Emmett, Charlotte, Pearly, and Flora Mildred. Theomas Green married Mary Jane Mobberly in 1917 or 1918. No childrenb to this union. Thomas Franklin GREEN married Nora ORANGE in Monroe Co., on April 8, 1904. They lived all over the state and in TX. during their marriage. My mother, Lela V. GREEN PETTY, was their first born. Two sons, Harlan and Everett completed the list. I have ghe GREEN ancestry back to Ireland and will share with anyone who can identifybeing in this line. I surely would appreciate any help with the NICHOLSON and ORANGE lines. My PETTY lines are on the PERRY Co. website at < http: www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/oh/perry.htm> Any leads on the NICHOLSON or ORANGElines appreciated. Thank you. Marjory A. Austen MAPPAusten@aol.com
I am researching the ancestry of John Calvin ORANGE who was b. ca. 1825 in Redstone Tp., Fayette Co., A and resided in Monroe Co. prior to his death at Battle of Spotsylvania Court House in VA where he was serving in Co. D in the WV Volunteer Infantry on May 12, 1864. He married Isabella LOGAN in Fayette Co. PA on Sept 12, 1851. Their children were Nancy Jane b. Sept. 16, 1852; Mary Elizabeth b. Oct. 11, 1853; Thoomas Samson (my line) b. Jan. 9, 1855 and John William b. July 13, 1856. I do not know in which state the children were born. Thomas Samson married Mary Ellen WINLAND in Monroe Co., on Dec. 27, 1877. Mary Ellen was the daughter of John and Mariah MOOSE WINLAND. There children were Eva, Leonard, Nellie, Nora (my grandmother) I have the parents of John Calvin in PA but can get no farther back. His parents were Thomas and Mary Unknown ORANGE. Thomas b. ca. 1783; d. June 5, 1833 in Redstone Tp. Their children were Elizabeth, John Calvin, and Thomas S. who moved to Galesburg, Kansas. Any leads appreciated. Thank you. Marjory A. Can someone tell me the meaning of Oberamt? When reading German places such as Owen, Oberamt Kirchheim, Wurtemberg , .... does the Oberamt refer to a parish district ? a registration district ? or what? I do not think it is county or canton because I have also seen places with a Oberamt and Canton in address. Thanks Karen

Guten Tag, Ich habe hier, veilicht, das antwort.... Oh, I think I have an answer... Ober, in German, means upper (it also means waiter, garcon.. but that isn't important... <grin>) Amt means office or bureau (it also means trunk, but again that probably isn't important). When you put the two together, a very common German practice, for instance autobahn or volkswagen or fahrvergnugen. It loosley translates to the higher government office or something similiar to a county seat or place of registry. That, or a waiter trunk whatever that may be..... Hope this helps.
