    3. Hello Fellow-Researchers We are seeking information concerning a THOENEN family in the Monroe Co.,OH area. We have a marriage between a THOENEN and a HANSON. Both families were supposed to be from the Hancock Co.,WV area. However, though we were able to find Hanson families in Hancock Co - we did not find THOENENs. We were directed by another family member to the Monroe Co., OH area, and are hoping that some one of you might have some information. We are starting from "scratch", so would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thanks, Pam pamjt@saa.net

    3. Here is my mystery, Oscar Amos Walters was my Grandfather, who I only saw two or three times in my life. In the records he left behind his birthplace is Ohio,1872. In a 1880 census of Cedar Co. Iowa it shows John Sears and Lucinda Sears , Oscar A Walters Adopted son. There is a IGI record of John and Lucinda's marriage in 1872 Monroe Co.,Ohio. A census record of 1850 for Green Twp.Monroe Co., lists Samuel Walters b.1800, as head of household and Lucinda b.184- 8 yrs. old. Also 4 sisters and one brother. All of which grew up married and died in and around Monroe Co. Amos was the brothers name. Lydia was one of the sisters and the others I would have to go to my files to tell you Most of these descendants are buried in Beallsville Cemetery, Lucinda Walters Sears is buried in Stillwater Cemetery, Belmont Co. I have found records that indicate Oscar's birth parents may have been George W Walters and Rachel E. Davis. They were residing in Monroe Co. So that is my story. Can anyone help me fill in the wholes? Thanks for your time, Reta

    1. Re: [OHMONROE-L] LOY family of Monroe Co., OH
    2. Hello Connie and Bill, Thank you very much for responding and for the new information/s on the LOY family of Monroe Co. I am actually trying to help a cousin of mine, Ron Loy. We both descend from the Mathis family of Brown Co., IN (common gg grandparents), his line married into LOY and mine into NOYE (actually my husband's line), all in Brown Co. Oldest daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Becket) Loy, Catherine that married John Truex, also ended up living and dying in Brown Co., Indiana. Ron's gg grandfather was one Edward W. Loy, born 1835 in Ohio. Edward had a son named Lee, who was born 1861 in Indiana. We located the following marriages in Bartholomew Co., IN, which borders on Brown Co: Jacob LOY married Mary Hodler 30 June 1861 Edward W. Loy married Rebecca J. Daugherty 25 March 1857 Lee Loy married Mattie Kee 14 March 1880 The Edward and Lee are Ron's ancestors. Other Loy marriages in Bartholomew were Cora, David, Grace, Hanna, John F., Levi, Lillie, Mary, Phoebe, Robert, and Rose. Interestingly enough, Ron and my GRINER and KEASER ancestors (also direct lines) were in Monroe Co., OH for 1840 and 1850 and 1860, prior to moving to BROWN CO., INDIANA. At this point we are trying to document that Jacob and Elizabeth Loy's son, Edward, is one and the same as Ron's Edward W. that was born 1835 in Ohio. Both have same birth year, and since oldest daughter Catherine also moved to Brown Co., it looks very promising. If so, then Connie and Ron are cousins (and Connie and I by marriage). Connie, do you know by chance when and where Jacob and Elizabeth died please? Have wills or probates been located on them? Again, thank you for your time. Teddy Noye in CA

    2. William Beckett
    3. Howdy I have no answers for you, but do have some information that may fill in some gaps or it may open some new questions. I have an Elizabeth Beckett (born about 1808 in Maryland), who married Jacob Loy in 1827 in Monroe County, Ohio. Is this the same family? ! 1850 Census was Jacob Loy; 45; Farmer; born in Maryland. He and his family [Elizabeth (42); Rachel (18); Edward (15); Samuel (11); John (9); William (7)] lived on farm in Sunsbury Township, Monroe Co., Ohio. Interestingly enough, there is an Elizabeth Loy listed in the 1860 Monroe County census. [! 1860 Census was Elizabeth Loy; 51; born in Ohio. Living with family of Vincent Wilkenson in Smith Township, Belmont County, Ohio.] Vincent Wilkenson married Sarah Beckett (1819-1858) in 1838 in Belmont County. Sarah could have been a sister of Elizabeth. Elizabeth may have returned to help keep house after Sarah died. But, all that is conjecture. Also conjecture is that both Sarah and Elizabeth were children of Humphrey and Rachel Beckett of Smith Township, Belmont County. That is about all the information I have. Anything you could provide regarding this Loy family would be most appreciated. Regards, Bill Beckett The fellow who leans on his family tree may never get out of the woods. >Hello, > >Searching for info on the Jacob LOY family of Monroe Co., OH (family on 1850 >census), especially son Edward Loy. 2. Does anyone have a handle on a line of NICHOLSONS who came out of VA/WV? One researcher suggested that her line came across the river but she didn't have a William of this age. William and Nancy had another son William who married Lucinda HENRY. Nancy VASS was b. in VA according to later Ohio Census. Perhaps the NICHOLSON gang came from there also. They were in Ohio by 1808 I believe or perhaps in neighboring Belmont Co. Any leads? Marjory A. Austen MAPPAusten@aol.com
