Sue, Much of Washington Twp. lies in the Wayne National Forest area. The cemeteries of Monroe Co. have no full time caretakers, local mailing addresses or phone numbers. Many of the cemeteries are either cared for by a church or the local township trustees who hire various people to mow grass and dig graves as needed. I am not aware of any published cemetery reading for Washington Twp. There are published ones for Jackson, Perry, Ohio and Lee townships. In Fedorchak's books on Monroe County there are cemetery readings, but many times they are only a partial listing of the surnames she was interested in at the time. These books are not in print, but are available at many libraries. Regards, Janet Conn SUE SISK wrote: > > Hello All, > Does anyone have knowledge of Cemeteries in Washington Twsp., > Graysville??? Hello List Members, My search for Robert MARTIN continues [without any success so far] Robert was born in Monroe County, Ohio 18 December 1819. On 24 March 1844 he married to Narcissa POOLE in Washington County, Ohio. According to a family Bible, all of the children of this couple were born in Washington County, as was Narcissa. I have a listing of Robert and Narcissa's decendants and a good bit of information on Narcissa's family. I would be happy to share what I have. My problem is that I cannot find Roberts parents and/or siblings. Nor do I know when and where Robert and Narcissa died and are buried. I keep posting this hoping that someone will reconize the names or have a hint for me. I appreciate all leads and ideas - I have exhausted mine. Hoping to hear from someone with an idea, and hoping that you are having a good day and keeping warm, Joycee Meddles Palmer - jlmeddles@aol.com searching for the surnames MARTIN, MEDDLES, MCMULLEN, POOLE, FLANAGAN mostly in Ohio, West Virginia and Indiana, but all states welcome
I`ve got the 1850,1860,and 1870 Census. I`m just curious about all the name changes, I just put it down to human error, for that time-by the Census Taker. Martha S.,Selina,Celina, and Julia are all George D.Fogle`s WIFE. I was hoping that I would find some sort of history on the family, and a distant relative. As long as I have been researching the Mellott family that resides in Monroe County, Ohio, I have always had Abraham Mellott (s/o Theodorus Mellott and Elizabeth Trembley) being married to Nancy Mathews. I am not sure where I saw it the first time, but on a previous occasion I had seen her last name as Mathess. Well, I recently did some research in Woodsfield and according to the Birth Record Book, Abraham J. Mellott's mother was Nancy Mathess. I just went and locked at Angeline Mellott Foughty's death certificate and sure enough, her mother is listed as Nancy Mathess on it as well. Looking at the 1840 Census Index, you find Abram, Ezekial, and William Mathess, along with Jesse Mathews all on the same page as Theodore Mellott, Abraham Mellott's father. I am curious if anyone has evidence to support the Mathews surname because it certainly looks as if her name was Mathess otherwise. Scott Byrd Chesapeake, VA
THANK YOU Scott!!! I got a question....On the names Merttie S. and Robrita, would you replace them as Martha and Roberta? Or keep as is? On some names I wonder if they`re misspelled, a nickname,or the parent wanted it that way. This list has been so helpful,I sure do appreciate it! HI Everyone, new to the list. It seems that in Family research there is always a Gotcha. Well my Christian RUFENER doesn't seem to belong to any of the RUFENER families in Monroe Co,OH but yet he is there amongs them. He is living in Monroe Co,OH in 1870 with a Rufener Family clearly not his parents! 1. Christian RUFENER was born Mar 1847 in , , , Switzerland. Hi, I'm new to the list. Does anyone have any information on Richard Powell. He lived in York Township, Belmont Co. about 1808 and in Monroe Co. in the early 1820's? I have been told his children included: Abner, Hiram, Barnabas and Joshua. I understand the Monroe County courthouse burned and probate records are unavailable is this correct? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!!!!! Charlotte Lewin
