Hi Martha, I have Volume 1. The intro says: These abstracts were taken from the files of the Spirit of Democracy newspaper for the periods 7 October 1897 through 28 December 1899 and 1910. Other items were abstracted from the Monroe Gazette newspaper 13 Feb 1893 through January 1894. The Monroe Gazette was originally published in 1873 under the name The Monroe County Democrat. It ceased publication in 1911. The Spirit of Democracy has been continuously published in Monroe County since 1844. I hope someone else can tell you about Vol. 2. Please some help needed. Does anybody know the heritage of a Charles Haines b1796 in KY or anywhere, wife Mary, that appears in the 1850 census for Monroe Co, OH??? They had a son King Haines b 1828, this name of King seems to run in the family. There must be a Haines/ King marriage that fits somewhere....maybe not in Ohio. Charles Haines said he was born in KY in the 1850 census. thanks, about to give up....Lyle Corder
