Posted on: Monroe Co. Oh Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Monroe?read=162 Surname: McMahon, Bradley, Hanlon, Burns, Wilgus, Schneider, Bachman, Marti, Reusser, Tschanz, Paulson, Alexander, Barkes, Burris, Merrical, Myers, Huffman, Stewart, Ullom, Smith ------------------------- In the book Family Research in Monroe County, Ohio, Volume I, published by the Monroe Chapter OGS, Catharine Fedorchak wrote, on page 71, that she believed Joseph Minor (ca 1794-22 Feb 1854), listed in 228/228 in Center Twp by the 1850 census with wife Mary and son Solomon, to be a son of Theophilus Minor (26 May 1770-02 Mar 1851). This is the closest thing I've found to verification that Theophilus was Joseph's father. Joseph had three children that I know of 1. Levina (23 Feb 1818-27 Jan 1857) m. 1839 Monroe Co. Taylor Jefferies 2. Margaret (12 Dec 1823-08 Jun 1887) m. Abraham Jefferies, and 3. Solomon (ca 1828-?) m. 28 Nov 1850 Monroe Co. Lavina Jane McMahon. Because of the gap between the birth of Levina and Margaret, and that between Margaret and Solomon, I suspect that Joseph had additional children. Solomon had seven children that I know of 1. Sarah (ca 1853-?); 2. Margaret (ca 1854-?) m. 22 Jan 1874 Monroe Co. William Harvey Howell; 3. Thomas (ca 1856-?); 4. Joseph (ca 1858-?); 5. Elmer E. (ca 1866-26 Mar 1868); 6. Ida (11 Mar 1869-27 Apr 1926) m. ? Hornbrook, and 7. Mary B. (ca 1876-Sep 1878). I regret that I do not have any information about Matilda Moffett or the Howell family. I have a great deal of information about the McMahon family and will contact you about them. Bill McMahon

Boy is my face red. I passed on the wrong URL for the Civil War data base. The correct one is www.ancestry.com not ancestor.com. Please pardon the mistake. I am searching for some assistance with my Mathews line. Nancy Mathews (born 1828 in Ohio), my 3rd great-grandmother, was married to Abraham Mellott. They lived in Monroe County, Ohio. In looking for candidates for her father, I find a John Mathews in 1840 who has a female in his household that falls into the right age bracket. He is a bit old (btw 60-70), but the oldest female is younger (btw 40-50). If anyone has any further information on any of these Mathews, I could use a lead on this one.

Frank Ramon Howell was my ggrandfather who married Estel Ault in 1908. Frank's father was William Harvey Howell who married Margaret Minor. William Harvey Howell was son of Harrison Howell and Matilda Moffett. Harrison was son of Aaron Howell. I have been unable to trace Matilda Moffett. She showed up in the 1850 census in the home of Thomas Carrick. Margaret Minor's parents were Solomon Minor and Levina Jane McMahon. Solomen's father was Joseph. I would like to find out if Joseph was a son of Theophilus. Levina Jane was daughter of Thomas McMahon. Thomas had several brothers, Elijah is one of them. Believe they came from PA along with the Minor's. Any info appreciated. Regards, Peggy
