----- Original Message ----- From: ldye To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, January 19, 2005 9:10 AM Subject: Re: Joseph Dye Hi Jerilyn--my Joseph was a son of John R. and Priscilla. His eldest child, James Ervin Dye, is my 2nd gt gfa. James Ervin's first wife, my 3rd gt gmo, was Nancy Jane Markley and the youngest of their children was Abraham, my gt gfa. James Ervin and Nancy Jane moved back and forth betw. Monroe Co. and Wayne Co., OH (Orrville-Wooster area). After Nancy Jane's death, James Ervin wed Jane Dundass of Monroe Co. and they lived in the Wayne-Stark Co., OH area and had one son, James Ervin Dye, Jr.. My current BIG quest is to find the burial places of Joseph and James Ervin...and mainly to first find their places of death. I cannot get to those counties to go through death/church records, etc.. Am looking for long-lost relatives, etc.. Am also trying to verify that James Ervin and Jane are buried in unmarked graves in the cemetery of the Chapel of the Cross United Meth. Church in N. Lawrence (Stark Co.), OH. Nancy Jane Markley Dye and son Abraham are buried side-by-side in Union Cemetery at Paradise (in Wayne Co.). There are so many repeated names that it is difficult to keep the people in the correct families. I rec'd a packet of info years ago from a lady near Cleveland who was related. She had as James Ervin's wife, the Nancy Jane Dye who md. William Bolen in Monroe Co.---I think the latter couple also moved to Wayne Co.. The sad thing about that misconception was that that lady said she was right and the rest of us were wrong so that attitude, I am sure, led to much more confusion! As for the children you have listed for Joseph: I think he did not have daughters Elizabeth and Abigail but that one of the daughters was Abagail (not Abigail) Elizabeth or Elizabeth Abagail and was known as "Abby," and she wed a Varner. Another daughter, Mary Pricilla (spelled with no "s") married a Hamilton Rinard. The Varners and Rinards later migrated to Nebraska. I found info on them on some NE source that details migrants. Do you know if one of the John R.'s has the "R" in his name for Rodgers? I have heard of John Rodgers Dye and don't know who that is---some people say that is the middle name of Joseph's father. There is so much to learn about these folks!! How are or are you related? Will gladly share info. Thanks. I, like Jerilyn, am also a direct descendant of Daniel Dye, Sr. who, along with his son John R. Dye (a Baptist preacher) was one of Unity Baptist Church's founders. In fact, from what I understand, the first Baptist service held in that area, with John R. preaching, was held in John R.'s home before the church was built. So I also am interested in the church's early records. They may no longer be in existance. I have tried to locate the records for the Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery because I would like to know if Joseph Dye, son of John R. and my 3rd gt gfa., is buried there next to his wife Mary. (Her dob and dod are on the stone but since only his dob is on the stone, no one knows if he is actually buried there next to his wife). The United Meth. Church East Ohio Conference closed the church some years ago and I was told by that conference's office that the records were not at the conference level and that the procedure was to leave the records with the church people/township trustees, etc.. Well, alas, after numerous phone calls to former church people and trustee secy., the fate of the records to date is unknown. Would sure appreciate hearing from ANYBODY about any of these records for both churches! Thanks. This was found on the Phillips Co., Kansas rootsweb page and thought it might be of some interest to some of these families. Taken from The Kirwin Kansas - Thursday June 29, 1939 Andrew Jackson King Obituary Andrew Jackson King, son of John W. and Martha M. King was born in Monroe County, Ohio, on March 31, 1858, where he grew to young manhood. On Nov. 24, 1879 he was united in marriage to Eliza Jane Carpenter. To this union 7 children were born, - two sons and five daughters. On May 17, 1892 his wife passed away, leaving him to care for a family of small children. In Sept. of 1900, he came to Kansas, and on August 21, 1902, he was united in marriage to Colista Ellen Farley. They immediately moved to the farm which had been purchased and which has since been their home. Here, "Uncle Andy" as he was known to his friends and neighbors, found great interest and pleasure in improving the farm which he called "Woodsfield" farm. He passed away on June 19, 1939 at the grand old age of 81 years, 2 months, and 19 days. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph W. and one daughter, Anna F. Those left to mourn his loss are his loving wife; one son, Ira X. of Phillipsburg; and four daughters - Rosa Denbow of Woodsfield, Ohio; Martha Brown of Ravenna, Ohio; Iva Decker and Zena Shank of Akron, Ohio; and a great many other relatives and friends. The deceased was a member of a family of eleven children, all of whom have preceded him in death. He is survived by two half-sisters, Oleatha Brown of Logan, Kansas, and Stella Farley of Manteca, California. He has a large number of grandchildren and he has the honor of having four great-grandchildren. Uncle Andy was of a jovial disposition, and was feeling his best until the end came, which was a shock to his many friends and neighbors. The granting of his oft-repeated wish - that when he no longer could help himself, he might not remain to become a burden - is a consolation to his loved ones. "In Heaven thou art now at rest, Free from all cares and pain. I try to think it for the best, And what we lose is but they gain." "Dearest father, thou hast left us. And thy loss we deeply feel; But' tis God that hath bereft us,- He can all our sorrows heal." Funeral services were held at the Delmar Chapel on Wednesday forenoon, June 21, and were conducted by Rev. Jas. G. Roberts of the Phillipsburg Methodist Church. A quartette from Kirwin sang the hymns. The pall bearers were six nephews; Frank, Harry, Lester, Carl, Ralph and Wayne King. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery. Taken from Phillips County Post - Reprinted from the Agra Sentinel Nov. 5, 1914 Joseph W. King Dead Joseph W. King, son of Andrew King of Bow Creek, died at his home in Fairbury, Nebraska, Thursday. The remains came to Agra on the Jersey Friday and were conveyed to the family burial ground near the old home where they were lain to rest that evening. He leave to mourn his untimely end a wife, and one child, parents, brothers, and one sister - Agra Sentinel The deceased was a brother to Ira King, of this city, and had many friends in Phillipsburg who wil be pained to hear of his untimely death.

I am looking to connect my William DILLON with his proper parents and ancestors. From census records, we know that William was born in Ohio. (County unknown). In the 1850 census we find William DILLON with his wife Elizabeth (?) and their three sons. Abraham age 6, Henry age 4 and John age 3. They were living in Monroe County, Green township. In 1853 William moved his family to Decatur county, IA where we think William died about 1875 as he does not appear in the 1880 census. About 1875, His wife Elizabeth transferred lands in Decatur county to her older son Abraham's name. Son Abraham married Jane GALPIN and son Henry married Emmaline GALPIN sister of Jane. The two sons continued to live in Decatur County for many years.
